I'm in my third year(in a Russian Med. uni.)...need advice on where to do my clinicals

    Advertisements

    Hello!

My name is James.I'm studying at Northern State medical University....North of Russia.

I have a few questions to ask and, anybody who is enlighted about these questions should please reply.
    The questions go thus:

    I. I'm in my third year and i have been thinking seriously of transfering somewhere else in Europe....I would like to ask for a list of Accredited Medical Universites in Eastern europe that i can complete my clinicals in(4-6year)?

2.Which one out of the list of schools is the cheapest?I'm also considering the tuition too.

3.I'm planning on specializing and working as a general practioner simultaneously; In the U.S ,Canada or Australia. Will it be possible to be accepted in these countries after finishing from the list of universities i asked for above without the USMLE?

4.What are the possibilities of working in the U.S,Canada,U.K and Australia as a doctor with a Russian degree? And if possible ,what univerisites in Russia are accredited in the countries above? If not, what are the criteria for me to be able to practise in these countries(U.S,Canada,U.K and Australia) with the Russian degree/diploma?

5.What do you know about Kursk Medical University?Apart from their nice English programmes,is it really a good school for one's clinicals..and is it accredited in the U.S?

6.What advice can you give about going to
    Oradea University?

1 yes u can transfer after 3rd year......there is nothing called US accredation...if ur univ is recognised by the WHO are are elligible to sit fr the USMLE the rule applies for any country in the world including USA....there are three steps in the USMLE after which u need to pass the Clinical Skill Assesment (CSA) and then TOEFEL after which u can apply fr recidency......now this Recidency part is Dependent on individual states of the USA .....some states are friendly to the Foreign Med Graduates others are not.....if u want to practice in the state of California then u need to study in a California Approved School(however it dosent mean that u are exempted fr USMLE) there are few schools in E europe(2 or 3) that are Cali approved their tution fee is about 10000$ per year...no Russian Med School has yet applied fr cali approval....but i doubt that even if u go to those Cali approved schools ur degree will b approved fr practice in Cali as u have studied 3 years in a non-cali approved School...............so there no no loop hole fr practice in USA .....no matter where u are from...Europe , Russia, Australia...or any other part of the world....first u ll have to pass USMLE... fr Australia , Canada or Newzealand similar rules apply... they wont give u any extra credit if u study in a particular country......only in case of UK there are loop holes where u can b exempted fr Exam (PLAB) in that case u ll have to complete ur whole Graduation in a EU country or USA...else u ll have to get some extra credentials...wwhich is a complex process but possible, i know 2 guys from my college who have been exempted from PlAB after graduating from Russia n getting some Extra credentials(see the UK Website)

2 Kursk is a fine school with the Best english in Russia and perhaps E Europe

3 the problem with Oradea is that there is a lot of Corruption out there in that school and Romania

4 other schools which u may try are:

1 pavlov Univ ,St Petersburg Russia(4500$ per yr)
    2 PFU russia (4500$)
2 Verna (5000 euro -yr) bulgaria
    3 sofia( 5000euro-yr)
    4 carol Diva- romania (4500$)
    5 charles univ (11000$)
    all eng med courses....

but before transfering to a diffrent ccountry from russia check out if u ll b allowed to get license in the country u like...after ddoing 3 years in russia n the rest in a diffrent country.....

Thanks for taking time to answer my questions.I'm very grateful. But, i guess i gonna bug you with a couple of other questions.

If i may ask;what country are you from and are you studying in the English medium at Mechnikov?

Why did you prefer to study in Mechnikov rather than Pavlov(L1)?I think L1 is better.

I'ld prefer either kursk or Pavlov..but i have a few problems; As for kursk i don't know how good their clinicals are..what do you think?

As for Pavlov....the skin heads i guess would pull a great hindrace...how do you survive there with all the skin heads around?

I'm studying in Russian...and i need to change becos i need to start preparing for USLME....but our curriculum is not giving any breathing space....and i guess if i'm in an english medium school it'll be easier to prepare for USLME -step1..what you think?

Do foreigners in EU countries qualify to work in U.K without having to take PLAB?And, what sites can i check up in the U.K..TO SEE whether i can work without having to take PLAB?......That's if you have any enlightenment in these areas?

    hi

    hi James
me from India.i m studying in English medium ( tuition 3335$)....first let me compare between Mechnikov(L2) and L1
no doubt L1 is a better institute than L2 but both have some advantages n disadvantages
    L1
advantage :1 strict school free from corruption
2 Gives special emphasis fr USMLE
3 many European n US citizens out there
    Disadvantage
1 their English medium faculty is just 4 years old.....so i doubt that they will b having teachers having good spoken english...however i had teachers from L1 who used to teach us in L2...his english was superb ...n he said that L1 has better english than L2 but who knows he may b an agent ....

2 the strictness of L1 is itself a problem ....here if u cant get all ur zachots within the scheduled time u ll b given chechlenia(TC) .....n the teachers are strict enough in giving u zachoot

    L2
    advantage:
the english medium faculty is 7 years old so their english is good if not the best
they are not as strict as L1 they give u extra time to clear ur Zachoots

    Disadvantage:
    lot of Corruption out here

however after knowing all these differences in the strictness aspect ....it appears staying in L2 will b cheating ur self.....i wanted to transfer at the beginning of the first semister but i had my russian n anatomy credits left.....so i couldnít transfer...i do wish to transfer to L1 AFTER MY 3RD Year after clearing all my zachoots

now about skin heads....believe me its not such a serious problem as it is propagated....i think that u are aware that there are a lot of rumors out there in Russia.....in my 2 years stay in this city i havenít encountered any attack yet......i regularly travel in metros out here, roam about this beautiful city but havenít met any such encounter.....yes u have chances of such attack if u roam alone in 2 am night during the winters....but in day time there is no such problem.......n if u are focused in ur studies then u wont have any such chances as most of ur classes will b in ur University n u will have some cycles off campus .....where u will go with ur friends in groups....skinheads dont attack groups...so at least i m not so much concerned with skinheads(though I m not white skinned)

now about Kursk ...i donít know if Kursk has the problem of skin heads or not....however no doubt Kursk is a very good University...i have friends who are from Kursk....their english is best in Russia n perhaps E Europe just because the english medium is 14 -15 years old...more over they give good lecture notes..............however i m not interested in Kursk because its not recognized by Medical Council of India(L1 n L2 is)...however that doesnít make the institute bad...just because Medical Council of India Recognises only those institutes that offer bribes to them....thatís the naked truth/.......by the way which institute are from ?
if u tell me to compare between Kursk n pavlov i ll support kursk just because the teachers speak better english...more over life there is cheap compared to St petersburg....now its upon u to decide u ll choose fr knowledge(Kursk) or Glamour (L1)....but u must remember that no school in Europe or Russia will prepare u fr USMLE they ll prepare u fr state exams....however in Pavlov u ll get a lot of friends from USA who are preparing fr USMLE.....dont know if KURSK have them or not....moreover i heard in L1 there is a 4 years program ...but the tuition fee is about 10000$ ...............

about clinical.....L1 will b better than Kursk just because L1 and L2 both has modern equipments ....n i dont think Kursk can offer u the same quality of equipments....however the clinicals depends more on u ..............u need to show ur interest n the only they ll show their interest...........thus i think u ll prefer L1.....one more thing if u are are white skinned u need not worry of skin heads at all ...hey dont forget to tell me from wich country are u from , n in which institute do u study?...may b we ll meet one day in St Petersburg......lots of krasibaya dewuskis out here !!!!!!

    Me again...

Well,I'm from africa(Nigeria...to be precise).I plan on moving to the countries i told you about..for specialization and more experience before going back home.A little description of myself:Chochlate in complextion,1.87m in height and average in size.

Your mail really helped me to move some flight of steps further in my decision takings. Thanks once more.

Can't you get information from your friends in kursk about the clinicals..it looks like the best option to me(that is only if i can find out whether they have modern equipment and other facilities).Try to ask them about that....ok?

I'm studying at Northern State Medical University ...it's located in a city called Arkhangelsk...it's the only and best university in north of Russia. It's really cold out here sometimes up to minus 35 degrees.
I don't really fancy studying in Russian...it sorts of hinder me....i'm really lacking behind. When i was studying in My Country in English i was doing so well..but now, i have really gone down.I need to do something about it before it gets too late.Although ,my school is cheap and good..but not at the international level(my own thoughts).

By the way..How much do they pay in L1?

    Waiting to hear from you....

    hi James

the fee in Li fr english medium is around 3800$ they might charge u 4500$ fr fee along with accommodation......as u are black skinned u situation is same as me.....about Kursk i think u ll b the best Judge ......go there once personally before getting officially transfered....then u can see the real thing....and makesure u visit the school once before u change...what appears good to me may not appear good to u.....about the equipments in Kursk my friends told that they are good(atleast not back dated) but not as good as St Petersburg...acctually in St Petersburg n moscow u get the Ultramodern equipments which are not so helpful in ur Undergraduate Education.....u dont need an electron microscope to study basic Histiology..........and my friend told that clinicals there are excellent......the best thing is that u get the best english faculty in E Europe at affordable price.

i dont see any justification in studying in Russian medium when english medium is available.....u take 10 years to learn english if eenglish is not ur mother toungue...how can u hope to study medicine in a language(russian) studying it just fr 1 year?

    wish u all the best......
