thank goodness we are getting a power change next year.

Let's just hope things change, otherwise we're in a world of hurt. I hope he can turn things around.

    He can't.

But they will "turn around" nonetheless.

And....we are in a world of hurt already....and will continue to be for some time to come.

The world economy in general is hurting, people are losing jobs all over the place, not just in the US but the world in general. Many developed and developing countries were experiencing extended economic expansions for the past several years even the USA under Bush was expanding up until this year.

he can't...but it will happen while he is president? so doesn't that mean he CAN?

its funny how when a democrat is in power, the economy goes great (see Clinton), but when a Republican is in power the economy hits the tank, except for the rich (see Reagan, Bush, Bush Jr x2).

yet GOP diehards always look to try to find a way to blame the dems somehow.

anyone read how 2 years before the mortgage crisis hit the fan Bush and his people were warned, yet did NOTHING about it?

The president isn't responsible for the economy, though presidential policy (and health) can affect the economy. No president controls it.

...and the government was warned about the coming real estate collapse when Clinton was still in office.

the president isn't responsible for the economy?
    wow. just wow.
so the president's decision about the war doesn't have ANYTHING to do with our current economy then?

I said presidential policy can affect the economy. The president is not responsible for the economy. That you feel the president is responsible for it is a much bigger "wow".

A great deal of what presidents do affects the economy, I leave no doubt about that. But your continuous comments on this forum make it clear that you feel the president controls the economy as a virtual puppeteer. That could not be further from the truth.

It may be that you exaggerate for emphasis, that you are simply wrong, or that you are mistaken (AKA wrong). In any case it simply is not the case that the president is in charge of or controls the economy.

We live in a world economy, the actions of every one and every country affects everyone else.

The president cannot force the other branches of the US Government to agree with him. The president is can do things that are against the wishes of everyone since the office does control the military.

The President is the Commander-In-Chief. His powers are limited even in that regard and defined by the Constitution. He cannot "act against the wishes of everyone".
