    Ok, this is why ~~I~~ believe the bible is real. Your mileage may vary...

    when I was seven; I had this weird thing happen to me. I was lying on my bed looking at the wall. Just starring at it. I like started to drift, not really to sleep, but I wasnt really awake either. Then, its like I'm very high up, looking down on this huge room, like a train station or airport or something. Its late; I hear one person's footsteps. Hard leather shoes against the tile floor. There are some pay phones. Gradually, but quickly, there are more and more ppl, more and more footsteps. It gets louder. ppl talking. the pay phones. and then just as gradually it subsides. just that last person. just walking. hard leather against the tile floor. and then this all stops. about an hour later.

    that was pretty wild to me. I was just seven. my parents were not really religious at all, I hadnt ever even been to a church, but I wanted to learn more about spiritual stuff. my mom had a KJV bible so I got it and started to read some of it, though it was pretty tough for me at the time. but soon I got the basics down about the 10 commandments. I read about God and that God had a son named Jesus.

    I basically continued like that for a while. I remember being at a playground at recess. one of my friends said "God Dammit". I asked him why he said that when the bible said we are not supposed to take the Lords name in vain (3rd commandment). he said he knew, but his dad said it a lot so he figured it didnt really matter.

    ===============

    I remember looking in the mirror one day. I was 13 yrs old. Im not sure what prompted this, but I prayed to God. I asked God to make me strong at age 15, to make me smart at age 18, and to let me fly at age 21...

    well, at age 15 I was on the wrestling team. I was gaining a bit of a reputation for being able to wrestle ppl much bigger than me. just last year I was wrestling at 150lbs weight class and this year Im a solid 170. I couldnt change my weight at all up or down. then I went in for a routine
    physical and the doctor thought I might have cancer. I actually had surgery to biopsy it and it was found to just be a cyst, nothing special at all. but it did leave me with a big scar and forced me to sit out the rest of the season of sports.

    age 18, sports have kind of plateaued for me. Im varsity lettering but not doing anything special in soccer or wrestling. at the same time I was in three math classes and am nicknamed the calculus kid. I was the only junior in the calculus class and was easily the top of the class.

    age 19. I am in college. I just got dumped by my first girlfriend. I had sex with her, and my parents found out. so they werent talking to me for a while. and I spent too much time with her that I allowed my grades to drop too much, and lost my full ride scholarship. so there I am, basically no friends because I neglected them also, college is bombing, parents hate me, girlfriend dumped me, no scholarship.... about time to run away.

    I prayed. it was all I knew to do. pray before I run away. say, Im sorry God, I failed at everything, I broke just about all of your commandments, and just let me die.

    you know its really weird. if you pray, and you focus on God, it is such a calming effect. I prayed for a long time.

    I eventually confronted my parents, I told them I knew I messed up, but asked them to forgive me. they began to lay off. I got a letter from the school that one of my profs messed up on calculating my calculus grade and I actually got a B and not a D. so I get my scholarship back.

    I finally realized in my own way, that God would not leave me, but that I had to leave Him. God is a constant.

    as you may know, I went to an engineering school. most ppl there were highly intelligent and few believed in God. so with basically just my own experiences and some basic knowledge I began to learn more about Christianity. specifically sciences. I came to engage in many debates. not
    always winning them all, but always learning more about what I didnt know. I took a test that said I am a genius, and that kind of opened a door for me to get to play in their exclusive club, so to speak.

    there were also many people there of other faiths. I came to learn those very well also. to me, Christianity is far more logical. it follows step by step; prophecies are given and later shown to be true. so many others it seems as if someone was just babbling and foaming at the mouth, and people around wrote down what they heard as quickly as they could. the bible presented itself as clear and rational to me.

    about 20 yrs old, I sat down one night and read the whole book of John. I dont know why, but I just did. and it meant so much to me. nothing ever had like that. have any of you ever read it? what does Jesus mean when He says to eat His flesh and drink His blood? read it... the entire book of John consists of Jesus CONSTANTLY talking about everything in a spiritual sense, and constantly the people around Him think he is talking in a physical sense. they didnt immediately get it back then. most people still do not get it today, even those who call themselves Christian. its so powerful.

    =======================

    about 21, I am at this wrestling tournament for my brothers. they are taking a break, and Im watching this other match. im watching them just start for a few seconds, all of a sudden im watching them wrestling still, but its the END of the match, I see the dood on the right do a single leg take down on the right leg of the dood on the left. they scramble and the dood on the right ends up getting the points for the take down just as the buzzer goes off and the crowd cheers for a very close match.

    stop.

    then all of a sudden Im back in real time. only seconds have elapsed. I have this great sense to "have faith". I dont know why, but I just did. I sat there very intently watching this match. it had about 5 minutes to go when I started watching again. the dood on the left had a strong lead in points but the dood on the right was slowly coming back. then at the near end of the match, the score is tied! the ref starts them, they wrestle and the dood on the right does a double leg take down, the crowd cheers but the ref stops it saying out of bounds. everyone is booing. Im thinking "got to have faith"... they get back at it... the dood on the right shoots for the single leg, grabs the right leg of the dood on the left .... exactly as I had seen.... they scramble and he gets the points awarded ... exactly as I had seen... the buzzer goes off.... the crowd cheers.... he came back from losing in points to win exactly as I had just seen it about 5 minutes earlier. incredible. it was so vivid, i saw and heard everything, 5 minutes into the future.

    I had been praying to know what it was like for a prophet to be shown the future. what was it like? did they actually see anything? sounds? what happened? this was soooo vivid. like I was actually there. it was so amazing.

    =========================

    about 22 yrs old, it was a minute after midnight. I just woke up. I wondered why because I never wake up. I looked around the room. yawned. decided it was nothing, turned back over to the wall. all of a sudden I feel this crazy feeling like there is someone or something in my room with me. and then in an instant its like it is on top of me or something. I cant move, I cant talk, cant even see what is going on. completely freaking out, I see I cant do anything, so I just think to myself, JESUS PLEASE HELP ME!!!

    that very moment, I was able to move again. I could speak, and look around. I didnt feel that crazy bad presence at all. in fact I felt great and felt happy and secure. prayed for thanks. and went back to sleep. since then, I have really come to feel secure in God. I really just dont fear much of anything at all. God is there, He is ALWAYS there. And God is more powerful than anything, anything good or bad, all the Power and Glory is God's and God's alone. No fear, dawgs

    =====================

    about 23 yrs old, I start to notice with disturbingly increasing incidence
    that the number 17 just happens to show up. it might be 10:17am or 4:17pm or any hour:17. And its not just clocks but everywhere. I had no idea what it meant, why it is happening, but it is, so since about 23 yrs old, everytime I see the number 17, on anything, I pray. and now today, I end up praying like 10+ times a day.

    =====================================

    I recently found some biblical scripture that made me smile. "1 Thessalonians 5:17" and acts 2:17" ... check them out some time...

    now you know it all....

    How can the REAL thing say so?

    Its not real.It is my personal opinion, because God can never make mistakes,not as rudimentary as the earth's parabolic motion around the sun and its structure.

    A vatican theologian is not synonymous with the catholicism and catholicism is not synonymous with bible and the the Psalm passage stated is not the same as saying the earth is flat. I would interpret the statement that the Earth is immovable to mean just that--immovable by man.

    If the law of entropy states that things move from order to disorder then why do I heal when I am cut. This certainly appears to move against the this law. I surmise this is the same vital force that animates me. This is God at work in me. He made me so I believe what he says, thus I too believe in the bilble; however, the bible is true whether I believe in it or not.

    Science is not in conflict with God nor the bible. When I was in medical school so many of my classmates looked at science (the study of God's work) and surmised that if they could study it, it somehow disproved God and the bible. I found this to be a very large leap.

    God made man in one day, but it took them an entire semester to get a C in gross anatomy. I would have to say they were not qualified to comment on His work.

    I've never been particularly concerned with what other people believed nor do I see a necessary conflict between science and religion except among Biblical literalists.

    Personally, I don't believe the Bible/in gods because I have no compelling reason to do so. Easy as that.

    I would be careful what I said or HE may give you a compelling reason!

    Clearly it is Real!!!

    Anything you cant explain or seems supernatural is obviously "Him".

    And if you disagree Ill know because I have "magic" powers. Ill put a curse on you or maybe turn you into salt, and use my magic wand to send you to a fiery hole beneath the earth. Believe in me or suffer...

    Oh and by the way thats not "fire" its magic "light from the gods"....
    And the earth isnt 4.5 Billion years old its only seven thousand....
    And yes Man its ok for you to ravage the earth, and to use animals however you please, nothing will happen....

    Believe in me or suffer.....

    My favorite saying relating to the Bible . . . "Jesus save me from your followers".

    Actually, I don't think that this topic is one anyone should make fun of, it is just natural that we listen to each other and accept the way others see the world and life.

    Anyways, regarding the topic, I feel a bit ambivalent about religion. I am a roman catholic, i really do (or did) go to church every Sunday, I used to pray every day. A couple of years ago, however, i started to feel that i'm looking at this like an obligation, and actually I don't feel like going to the church or praying at all. I felt annoyed by my mum, who is really that kind of person who goes to church every Sunday and actually enjoys it - I started to feel like i was just the opposite. This made me feel guilty, and pulled me into a personal crisis concerning my religion and religious life.
    I did not come to a conclusion yet, but one thing I cleared is, that it's not God who I don't believe in, it's just the dogmas of my religion which made me step back. I'll just give one example, because I don't want to bother you with my seemingly stupid concerns about my religion: i don't believe that without making confessions to some priest you'll stay a sinner and a guilty person forever, I rather tend to believe that it is up to your own conscience. If I do something which is ethically not right, I do confess it, though not to an unknown person, but to God.
    Anyways, about the Bible: I believe, I know, that it's real. And with real I mean, it is a collection of books which were written a very long time ago by wise people; I do believe that some of the books (the New Testament) was written right after Jesus died or that it was written by people who knew people who knew Jesus, or.. or at least, that it is authentic to a certain extent. The moral, the ethics it teaches you, the way it wants you to live your life is not harmful, it's absolutely positive... therefore, I really don't get why some people can just despise it. The Bible is even useful for those who are not religious, even for those, who don't believe in God! It teaches you a point of view, it teaches you how to handle your life, your personal interactions. And if you do have faith in God, it'll show you a lot more than pure wisdom.
