Actually taking ritalin when you don't need it can become a crutch and in some cases cause an addiction. As you will or should learn in pharmacology, the drugs are effective if you truly need them but can be ineffective or cause addiction if not needed. Too many teachers tell parents to take their kids to the doctor because the teachers feel that the child has ADHD or ADD. Unfortunately, some family physicians or pediatricians will go along with the supposed diagnosis and not check it out properly. Sometimes the parents push for ritalin because they want to keep their child's teacher happy or because they notice the same type of behaviour at home and think it must be ADHD or ADD. Most of the time it is NOT so! Check out ADHD or ADD on e-medicine and see if the signs and symptoms really much. I bet they don't. The child quite often is bored and not being stimulated while in class. Teachers should recognize that the child needs to be challenged. This requires additional work on the part of the teacher, which some are not willing to do. So giving ritalin to a child that doesn't need it can cause problems too and the dependency can be problematic later on. So much for my rant on ADHD and ritalin.
    Cheers, A_G

In my undergad pharm clas the prof asked the classto raise their hand if they were on ADD meds. Virtually half the class did. It is widely perscibed now and anyone can easily get it.
I went to my GP to get my competative addvantage and he gave me a questionaire to determine if I was ADD. I passed the test with flying colors and was given Staterra, a relatively new ADD drug for adults. It is a norepinepherine reuptake inhibitor. It made me feel like I was constantly exhausted like I had just ran a marithon all the time. When he asked me later on if I wanted a refill I proptly declined. didn't ask for adderal specifically as didn't want to seem like a drug seeker.
I wouldn't mind trying adderal but since I get good results from OTC stuff like taurine and gensing, I'll stick with that for now.
alot of really good students I know benifited greatly from these drugs however and swear by them.

i would be remiss if I also didn't mention ginko biloba. I think it is a useful adjunct for mental alertness and there is good research validating its effectiveness, espesially in the area of dimentia and alzhiemer's.

Masturbation is a medical term, so i don't see any problem with using it on this forum . Ermmm i was looking more towards homeopathic treatments . I have never read any studies to support that..talking from experience are we ?
