Do you think that when you're applying to medical school, that you'll have a problem with prerequisites being an independent/correspondent study course?

My wife is doing the same thing as you and I'm hoping she won't have a problem with schools accepting them.

    I do not think it's a problem

Last time I checked with a US medical school, they indicated that they would not have a problem with DE courses, as long as the school is accredited and the course description mathc what they require. An important thing to remember is that the transcripts will NOT say the course(s) is via Distance Education.

Just have your wife try calling the schools she interested in attending and ask them.

    Good Luck

She is already doing the chem 2 and organic 1 through Univ. Of Oklahoma, one of the links you posted. They did say that the transcript will reflect as a correspondence course.

    pre-med courses through distance learning

    Hi,

Please make sure to check with a US medical school's admissions office before taking premed pre-reqs online if you plan to apply there! Not all med schools accept distance learning pre-reqs.
For example, the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida(http://www.med.ufl.edu/oea/admiss/site/FAQ.shtml#5) does not accept premed pre-reqs if they are taken through distance learning.

    From their website:
Q: Can I take the prerequisite courses at my local community/junior college?
A: In order to create the most academically competitive application you should take all prerequisite courses at the most competitive bachelor degree granting institution where you can gain entrance.

Q: Can I take the prerequisite courses through distance learning or through the internet?
A: Prerequisite courses must be taken in a traditional classroom environment.

    You are right

Yes, you are right; U of Oklahoma's transcripts will say Independent studies. However; most others will not say so, especially those taken online. Once again this is pretty much up to the individual medical school. If you look at the req. of most US med. schools, most would not elaborate on how the courses should be taken. Some will only mention AP, which is accepted by many, but you will have to take more advanced courses.
