What kind of research should one do if they intend to apply for med school? I am doing my senior thesis project with lobsters, and at the end of it my thesis sponsor will be writing a paper for publication in a scientific journal. Will this help me or hurt me because it does not have to do with the medical feild? I chose this project becuase it involves SEM work, which I enjoy doing. Will just having the experience doing research help?

Any scientific research is good because it gets you invloved in the scientific process and shows self-motivation.

    Being published is excellent, too

    Salutations "stookie":

Wow, that's something I don't hear everyday. You're doing a research on lobsters huh? Wow, that's awesome. Hey, you're going to have it published in a scientific journal so that is definitely worth something. Doing this gives you some experience, even if it may not be science related. By the way, any interesting thing you can tell us about lobsters? Just curious, is all. Ciao.

Sure, I'll tell you a bit about the project. I am studying the ranges of cycliophora present on Homarus americanus. Cycliophora is a small symbiont found on mouth parts of the lobsters, and I am trying to find how far north and south the symbionts are found on Homarus americanus. The project has been ongoing for a few years now and my project advisor wants me to complete the project, so we can publish the paper. I will be doing alot of the imaging for the project, including SEM and digital images.

Here is an article about it. The first cycliophora was found on a norwegian lobster. A student at my school found it on Homarus americanus, which launced this current project
