apparently there are not of non's around o-well just found the sight and whated to let you know there is at least one other
Hello everyone!
Just a note to open up the new forum. I titled this thread "Non-traditional Pre-meds" because I am one of the more non-traditional pre-meds you might encounter. I added in "(and Traditional)" because of the many younger students who will be stopping by here to get information about medical school and to ask the classic question:
"Can I get in with these stats?"
I hope this new forum provides a supportive atmosphere filled with good information for ALL of us who look forward to studying medicine.
Best of Luck to Us All!

I spent 7 years out of college before going back to do pre-med. Does that make me non-traditional?
Anyways, I'm also here if anyone needs help.![]()

Hi Uhura!
Great website! Wonderful story!
Hi tRmedic21!
I suppose you are about as non-traditional as the rest of us. It's good to know we aren't going this alone!
Best of Luck!
I'm not alone... I'll be 32 when I start in September 2003, and have been out of school for almost TEN years (hey tRmedic21, methinks I've got you beat)! I am so looking forward to being back in school (although I have some anxiety about the academic skills being a tad rusty
)... maybe it's like riding a bicycle????
Aloha,
What does everyone mean by non-traditional?
Peace out.
I am 40 and married w/ 2 kids...applying to the big 3 for next year...
does that make me non-traditional?
I hope so![]()

A non-traditional student is someone who did not attend school right out of their last school or who hasn't been in school for quite some time....examples:
a non-trad college student: someone who did not go to college right out of high school, someone who maybe did, but then returned to college as a 40 yrd old night student after working for several years, etc.
a non-trad medical student: someone who didn't go into med school right out of college. The more older, wiser, and experienced bunch! teehee (Hubby is 30!)
I know...it was kind of a joke![]()
