    Status on Federal Loan Approval

    Advertisements

I know this has been discussed on other threads, but I wanted to start a thread specifically for this.

Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of whether the 4MD program at PUMS is going to be approved for 2013/14 or 2014/15 academic year?

As of this year (for North Americans) tuition is going to be deposited in Poland and not at the US office in NY, is this them giving up on Federal loans?

Hey Brainbuck, you can email the financial person directly, renata at mdprogram.com ...She is quite helpful. Btw, how do you like Poznan, is it easy to do rotations back in the States? Thank you

If you get the chance, do MD in the states. If you can't manage that, do DO in the states. If you can't manage that, do MD in the Caribbean. If you can't manage that, consider the UK. Finally, if all those options are closed to you, consider E-Eu - if just because your chance at a US residency drops astronomically.

That's in no way a slight on PUMS. I think (so far) they've done an admirable job at almost everything. The staff over at the Dean's Office is really helpful and you can tell that the professors WANT you to succeed. By and large, the Professors are open to your questions, even if they don't seem to understand them right away (they are quite fluent in English, though).

I was expecting much, much worse.

I spoke with the deans office a few weeks ago and they said that they think they will have the loans because from their calculation, they're above the 75% pass mark for the step 1.

But I won't believe it until the money is in my bank account.

Gernald, thank you for all your help on youtube, its nice to see you are also on valuemd.

Brianbucket, Carribean over European? I guess its personal choice. I always felt universities such as Jagiellonian or Medical University of Warsaw or Poznan were research based universities, who are trying to help their students reach a global height, where the Carribean schools are just there for for profit, emphasizing profits. Poland is growing in the European Union and the value of their education system is going up dramatically, I think in the long run their universities are going to be one of the finest in Europe equivalent to UK, Sweden, and Germany because the country itself is reaching new heights. I am also potentially interested in staying in Europe to potentially do my PhD and be a researcher, so I might end up training in Europe.

I also think the most important factors for an fmg is to gain some clinical time in the US, and ace their steps so med school in Carribean vs. Europe is insignificant- if one doesn't do well on their standarized exams, it doesn't matter which foreign school they went to. There are Jagiellonian grads who placed into amazing residency spots including neurosurgery. There are Carribean grads who did the same. The conception that in a few years residency spots will drop for international doctors is garbage imho considering the aging population and this year's match placement proving otherwise- drops happen gradually not in a steep slope. Yes, there are many med schools opening up, but they are taking a very limited amount of students. The administrations in Polish universities get better organized as each year passes- I have got significant information on all three universities I am applying to and many students are very satisfied with their level of education. In earlier classes a few years back, I have read of problems, but its seems like I will be lucky, because many of these problems of the past got weeded out. We'll see though how things work out for me.

    Thanks gernald.

There are just too many things in your post that I would take issue with Swamifez, so I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.
