    Poznan or Gdansk?

    Advertisements

    Hi everybody!

So I got in to both med schools, Poznan and Gdansk (6 year M.D.). But can't really make up my mind. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice and tell me what they think, such as pros and cons about each university.

    What I know so far:

Poznan: The english program is recognized by the Medical board of California) but Gdansk (english program) is not.
In poznan they prepare you for the USMLE. BUt is that only for the american/canadian students? Since, I read somewhere that they divide you into groups, such as american/canadians, taiwanees, scandinavia. If so, then the scandinavians students are not obligatory to take the USMLE? Poznan was ranked best med school in poland, but not the english program?
Problems with cheating. NMBE exams reused, but they fixed that with using computers instead?

Gdansk: A lot of swedish students, well equipped and is highly known here in Scandinavia. High competition in the first year so to remove those students who are not serious about school (that is they take in more than they have places for). Trips to Sweden (I am from Sweden, thats why) is very cheap and easy.

Anyways, that's some basic stuff I know about both school that I wanted to point out. But yea, I really need to decide asap. I hope you can help. Thank you!

For Americans (or foreigners who eventually want to practice in the USA) the choice is Poznan, hands down, due to 50-state approval.

If you're a citizen of an EU country like Sweden (and want to practice there), then it doesn't really matter. Either one will offer you an EU diploma. I would recommend picking the place that is the most comfortable for you to live, which sounds like Gdansk to me. Good luck to you...

I agree completely with devildoc8404. Gdansk seems like a better option for you if you have no intentions of completing your further studies in the US as it is cheaper than Poznan in terms of both tuition and cost of living. And as you mentioned, they have a Swedish connection which may not seem as that much of a big deal but it is always better if you study in an environment which is familiar and friendly rather than slogging away all by yourself and feeling alienated.

Gdansk is better than Poznan, specially if you are a EU citizen who wants to practice in a EU country.Gdansk is newer, has good facilities, better research opportunities, nicer city and easier access. Poznan however is better if you intend to practice in the US because it is recognized in the 50 states and has a lot of American students. They prepare you better for the USMLEs,but it's not impossible to prepare for them by yourself if you study at Gdansk, very hard though.Anyway in 6 years, they might get cali approval too.

Poznan to me is better, looking at it from this angle, you get an EU diploma after you are done which can enable you practice in Europe, and then with the USMLE, you can practice in the STATES. You have two options and that is better than throwing all eggs in one basket.
