    Pre-Study Course Books

    Advertisements

I know there already books listed on PUMS website about the required books for the pre-study course. However, the books for Biology, for example, do they have to be of the same edition? I currently take A/P Biology and already have a Campbell textbook and I would love to use this book since I have had it with me since last summer and I do not think the other version the school recommends is extremely different because it is still Campbell Biology. Can anyone help me out? Did anyone use different textbooks/editions?

The campbell biology books are very similar edition to edition. I mean there might be a major difference from the 1st to the 4th edition (or whatever edition they're on now) but as far as the last edition and the most recent, probably not so much. The only thing that might change is a bit of the information and the pictures. As far as the pre-study course is concerned it's probably close enough and there isn't really any sense in paying that much for a new book. Worse comes to worse, if it doesn't work you can get the new book once you get started.

Do not buy books in advance. Generally, you do not have to have books for precourse. The books that are listed for physics and chemistry are too thick and you will never be able to go through them. You will need only certain chapters and these you can get the moment the precourse start.
If you insist on getting the whole books, though, you will buy second handed ones from other students. You will see that they are in good condition and that indicates that they have been rarely used. Do not trust any booklists. Most of the books that are listed are useless. Ask for advice from other students and reliable sources. Do not panic and wait for the courses to start. Buying books in advance is nothing more but a sheer waste. The items you will really need are not listed and kept secret.
