    Rank of Polish Schools

    Advertisements

Could anyone help to rank the Polish schools? I would think Jag. would be at the top since they cap their classes at ~35 students. Would Poznan would be in the middle? I'm researching these schools, mainly because they have Cali approval, Federal student aid, and clinicals can be sat up in the states. One aspect I am concerned about is the USMLE prep, I posted this in another thread but have gotten 0 replies.

Theres a lot of information out there, so if anyone could help to sort the good from the bad it would be great.

    Information on Poznan or Jagiellonian

Hmm...apparently novices to ValueMD can't post links. If you search through old threads you can find a report from 2003 (in Polish) showing Poznan ranked 1st and Jagiellonian 4th. You can also google this and you'll get a European Universities' ranking list, which you can sort by country. In this ranking, Jagiellonian is ahead, followed by Lublin and then Poznan.

I don't think any of this really gives a good idea as to how good the English programs are though. I've also been trying to find some information on these schools. I know Poznan used to have a USMLE prep course in their curriculum but they don't now. I would really like to know first time pass rate/avg scores from both schools as well more information on electives that can be done in the U.S. Are there formal agreements with hospitals/schools in the states or is it completely up to the student to find?

    Merry Christmas!

Hard to say. The schools dont have USMLE data. I'm a 3rd year at Poznan and our year is the first that is required to take step 1 and submit the score to the university b4 we're allowed to start 4th year. That said - imo the school has little to do w/ USMLE scores. By definition the type of students that end up in european schools will have lower pass rates and scores than their US counterparts. Not to say that you cant get a 99. In my year of ~65 students i know of 4-5 99's and there could be more except ppl here are extremely secretive about what they get. No it didnt take an insane amount of studying to score that - just a lot of self studying. Basically what im trying to say with all of this is European schools, and definately all Polish schools, even Poznan, Jag or warsaw, will NOT spoon feed you. Sure they will lower exam passing score to accomodate students () but they wont force you to study. So, if you NEED to be pushed and challenged in order to study hard, DO NOT COME HERE. They will pass you, give you an undeserved sense of security/accomplishement and they you will do bad on the boards or push them off forever. This will end up being one very expensive trip to eastern europe. If you are self motivated, and able to self-study, european schools are an interesting option.
