    respiratory system

    Advertisements

This may seem a really simple question but for some reason I can't get my head around it, can anyone please help.
If your breathing rate is 30 breaths per minute tidal volume is 200cm3, pulmonary ventilation is 6000, alveolar ventilation rate is (200 - 150) x 30 =1500, then why is an increase in the breathing rate alone not be able to satisfy the demands on the body during exercise

First you need to look normal vallue
    repirtory rate =12 to 18
tidal volume around 500cc per minute
just multiply your rate x tidal volume to get Minute tidal volume
respiratory rate of 30 time 200cc tidal volume =6000cc or 6 liter per minute
but he is SOB because he is air hungry,pt is trying to compensate breathing faster ,but still SOB,because his VT is to small....on normal person will be like respirtory rate of 12 Bpm x 500cc VT = 6000cc.......................The pt is not able to take a full breath .he is taking a little breath at a time....that why he is breathing very fast trying to compesated.
