    Physiology Studying Strategy Help

    Advertisements

    Dear students of Physiology,

Physiology is a difficult subject to tackle and I need help with it. So imagine you had the luxury of 4-6 months to devote to Physiology? How would you plan out your study if you had to start from scratch and had to learn the subject on your own. Keep in mind that I am interested in long term acquisition of knowledge? What is the best way to go about this?

Should I start with a review book. Learn it well and then expand my knowledge with a more detailed textbook.

Or should I do it the other way around and then use a review book to review for Step 1.

I know that starting with a detailed textbook is better, but it will require more time and it might easily get overwhelming. I will be studying on my own, and would like to go about this the best way possible.

Naturally the hardest part is deciding what is more important than not, and focusing on the relevant material. In any case knowing 1350 pages of a detailed textbook seems nearly impossible. What are some strategies to retain such a large volume of knowledge.

Lastly once I am done studying a chapter, how should I test myself to see if I've truly learned it? How much detail should I aim to retain?

Thank you all. I hope that this question will be helpful not just to me but to others. Feel free to answer as many of the questions as you would like or you feel competent enough to answer.

Please, let me know if you think the question is arbitrary or impossible to answer.

    Yours,

    EMT-B

Ok, no one wants to respond. Perhaps something is wrong with my question(s). Anyone?

    Simplified version:
What's the best way to learn and retain Physiology?
