24 yo female presents to your private practice with a blood pressure of 180/110 mmHg and an abdominal bruit. A renal angiogram reveals 90% occlusion on her left renal artery. You decide to do renal angioplasty to releive the occlusion. Her blood pressure normalizes. What is the most likely cause of renal artery stenosis in a young female?

    a. atherosclerosis
    b. fibromuscular dysplasia
    c. diabetes
    d. high cholesterol

The answer would be A, not B. nephrosclerosis causes secondary (malignant) hypertension.
