A 45 yo male smoker comes into your office complaining of dyspnea. In addition to dyspnea, you notice tachypnea and decreased breath sounds on physical examination. You diagnose the patient with an obstructive lung disease. Which of the following quantifies the degree of obstruction?

    a. TLC
    b. ERV
    c. FEV1
    d. FEV1/FVC
    e. TV
    f. FVC/FEV1

I think its D as well (FEV1/FVC).....b/c the ratio decreases in obstructive pulmonary disease....also TLC increases in obstructive lung diseases (which would b hard to measure cuz it has residual volume in it - can not b measured with a spirometer)
whereas in restrictive pulmonary disease the FEV1/FVC ratio either remains teh same or slightly increases
