a previously healthy 56 year old has the sudden onset of severe headaches that become worse in the afternoons. his bp is 180/110 hg. Renal arteriography shows 85% occulsuion of the right renal artery. the lab finding that best predicts wheter an operation that beliees the obsturction will reduce the blood pressure to normal is increased renin activity in the

    re: renin

Ischemic kidneys release higher levels of renin in their veins. Renal venous sampling for measuring renin levels to compare the venous drainage from each kidney can be used to predict the degree of renal ischemia and the potential success of surgical revascularization. (e medicine)

so in this question: since the stenosis is in the Right Kidney that means that the ipislateral vein will have a high renin plasma level and the contralateral vein will have a lower renin value

so my answer is right renal vein vs left renal vein

    hope this helps

The only really tricky part of this question is to decide really if it is in the artery or vein, and also it is not that difficult (I think). The juxtmedullary apparatus is what senses the reduced renal perfusion and it initiates the renin secretion. However, it secretes the renin inot an ARTERIOLAR system which turns into a venular system and so forth.
