Which D.O. school is good for surgical residency?

    Advertisements

I am interested in osteopathic medicine, but also interested in getting either an allopathic or osteopathic surgical residency upon completion of said D.O. medical school. I know that it is ultimately through the hard work of the individual, as to what residency he/she gets into, but are there any schools that seem to have more students obtain a surgical residency year in, year out than others? I have read that certain schools give you more elective rotations to 'audition' for the residency you want, but I was unable to find out which schools these might be. If anyone has any information, I would appreciate it.

Most DO schools would be great for surgery, in fact, DOs match much better than IMGs. I have quite a few friends who are DOs who just got into some really good surgical programs that IMGs would have a tough time getting into under the current situation.

Forget match lists and such. The fact of the matter is that it is you who will allow you to get a surgical residency, not the school.

That being said, the older schools are always a good choice (KCOM, PCOM, TCOM, KCUMB, MSUCOM, etc).

I'm a second year at a DO school, and fully intend on matching to a surgical residency. My school (KCOM) has done a wonderful job preparing me for this.

    Hope this helps!
