    perineal tear recovery

    Advertisements

I am 7 1/2 weeks postpartum. I received a 2nd degree tear during delivery. This is my 2nd delivery, five years ago I delivered an received an episiotomy. Then the doctor stitched the muscle and then stitched the top perineal skin together. It healed very well.
This time the midwife stiched my muscle and left the top perineal skin open. I was told, when I questioned this, that tears (or cuts) muscle is brought together with stiches and it heals from inside out so no stitiches are needed on the top perineal skin.
My tear is not healing. I have done sitz baths and have kept my legs closed and tried to rest. These simple measures have not worked. I have had two applications of silver nitrate and alos at my last visit (third total) they put one stich in near my vaginal opening. These measures have done nothing.
My intuition tells me that I need another silver nitrate application, the opening pulled together and stitched from the outside.

My questions are- is my case unusual? Is my intuition right, does this sound like what is necessary in order to keep the sides together to heal?

    thank you in advance
