Hello everyone... I know a lot of you guys in the forum are trying to figure out whether premed is right for you and if people actually make it through the program. So I am writing this to let you guys know that people do. I started premed in 2010 and I am so happy that I did because it paid off. One thing that I did before I came down was I made a promise to myself not to fail any classes. PreMed is not difficult at all... the professors are there basically just to guide you to Med1... the school actually wants you to make it into the MD program so that they can get your money (hehe.) Although the premed class did give me an edge over the other students, I was able to get into the pattern and lifestyle of the school, become familiar with other students which were ahead of me so as to receive advice on what materials to use and what to expect.
After I finished the premed program and Med1 began I realized that even though I am like to study myself ....... I needed to ask my other fellow classmates and senior students what to expect from a professor and an exam. This really helped me when times were difficult.
I am happy to say that I am among the 60 percent of my class that made it through MUA and will be getting my MD next year. With hard hard hard + extra hard work anything is possible. There are other people who have also gone this route and have made it + if I can do it almost anyone else can do it.

    Good Luck and Best Wishes

I just recently got accepted to the Premed program at MUA and wondering how you paid for the expenses. Did you get a loan or pay straight from the pocket? Also do you know if MUA will get financial aid anytime soon like the Big 4. Thanks

I did Davenport.. and I can tell you it was the worst experience ever... First of all it is time consuming (this was my biggest stress factor) and it does not give you enough money. My family gave me money to cover the rest + living expenses + air fare etc.. that came up to about $5,000 a semester for the living expenses.
I am hopeful that MUA will get federal financial aid but in my opinion it will take another 2-5 years. Keep in mind that SABA just got it and they have had California approval for a few years. With that said for MUA to be eligible for federal loans the program must be recognized by all 50+states.

    Hey Limedgirl,
Congratulations to you. It is hard work.

I finished on the Island in August 2008, but I still come here and post because it's such a meaningful memory and period in my life. I visit and post here, because I like to still feel connected to those times, even though it was so hard. I am appreciative to MUA for the degree and all the experiences around it. I'm PGY4 and it still seems like yesterday. Anyway, just wanted to say to everyone who is on the road, keep going, keep on, never give up. It's a very long, long road but it's worth it, I think. I remember times when I would walk out to the ocean front, out from the library (before the current main class building was built) and would look out and think "I'm never going to to make it, last semester was so hard, and I feel so overwhelmed". There were many times I felt I could take one more bit of stress. Keep going, 1 challenge at a time. You'll soon be further down the road.
    MUA finished.

I totaly agree with Spodat. congrats on finishing up your MD degree.

Are you sure you don't still post on here due to a stalkholm syndrome Spodat?? haha

I'm a resident as well, PGY3. Being on the island seems like such a distant memory; time seemed slow while I was there but looking back it seems to have gone by so fast.
