    Advertisements

    Hello Friends,

Just thought I'd start a January 2009 Premed thread, if there isn't one already.

Let's get acquainted with each other.

    I'm a 25/M from Toronto, Canada.

    How about you??

How are you finding the premed program? Do you feel like it has prepared you for basic sciences?
Another question I have, when is everyone booking their flights for? How early should we arrive?

Does anyone know why only few people move from Premed to med? I was readying a thread earlier and it said that ten people moved from premed to med. I mean how many people are in premed each semester? How hard can it be?? I mean on the scale of 1 to 10?

    Flight Bookings to Nevis

I found that unless you are booking last minute, book directly with the airlines. They guarantee the lowest fares on the web, and as far as I can see, it is true. I have looked at several travel agent websites (orbitz, vayama, expedia) and they are usually about $15-$100 more expensive than the fares offered by the airlines.
My husband and I are starting in May 09, but I have already booked my tickets (cheaper that way). I've chosen American Airlines and am buying one-way tickets (we're planning on staying on the island for the whole time to save money) . We'll be arriving 2 weeks before class starts but that's because I like to have time to get adjusted, know my surroundings beforehand, and because I don't have to stay in the dorms.

I've seen a few post where students mention that you can only move into the dorms about a week before class starts. I guess you should contact the housing coordinator, verify this is true in which case you don't want to arrive too early.

In regards to your last question Medboy, I think the same post you've read also mentioned that a lot of the people who quit pre-med were just not adjusting to the island and/or to the demands of the program. It's one thing to know that you'll have to study 12-14 hours/day, and another to actually do it.
Don't worry too much about what other people did. If you have the drive and the discipline, you'll be fine.
