    SGU PreMed VS. MUA PreMed

    Advertisements

    Hello all,

I just posted in the SGU regarding this question. I was comparing the premed programs offered by both MUA and SGU. From my initial impression, there seems to be more support and encouragement to take the MUA premed program than SGU. But I could be totally wrong. Any input on this. Does it have to do with cost and length of each programs?? Pros and Cons??

(Pls. dont reply if you are going to suggest to do pre med courses in the US/Canada, its not that i dont value your opinion, its just i want to stay focused on the question, thanks)

    Cheers!

I did premed two in Mua Nevis, and I loved it but quite challenging, on the flip side it prepared me for med classes. I have never been to SGU so I can't tell you mutch, but I know this it is more expensive than Mua Nevis in that regard. Good Luck!!

We need more info. What is the cost of the SGU PreMed program? How long is it? I believe the MUA PreMed program is about $6000/semester and is 2 semesters long.

I think the most important thing to know is what are your chances of getting into SGU or MUA if you successfully complete the PreMed program. I am almost 100% sure that if you keep a B average in the PreMed MUA program (not an easy thing to do for sure), that you will certainly be accepted into the Medical Program. Is it the same at SGU? If not, then what would you do if you went to SGU PreMed and were not accepted into their Medical program?

I have looked into both of these programs and talked to SGU several times.

I think the major differance is that SGU offers a complete under grad program and MUA just offers premed to student who have at least 2 years of undergrad finished.

Another major differance from my experiance is that SGU representatives do not seam to encourage anyone to do their pre med at SGU. When I talked to them they were quick to point out that they offered NO financial aid for premeds, and encouraged me to do my premed in the US. Not so with MUA or AUA.

Both MUA and AUA encouraged me to apply and told me that there are loans for the programs and that they could help me with the process.

Either I was talking to the wrong people at SGU or they only really want medical students.

Does anyone know the percentage of students admitted into pre-med who actually continue on to do MED 1????

    ---------------------

MUA- 3.0 GPA required to go into MED 1

SGU- 3.2 GPA + PASS status on their comprehensive exam (in-house MCATS)...required to go into MED 1
    - $8230 per term

REply to your choice to MUA/AUA VS SGU

    Hello Tyson,
Please listen to SGU I am in the medical school. SGU HAS A REPUTATION.
THEY ARE THE BEST OF ALL THE CARRIBBEAN MEDICAL SCHOOLS.
But, if you need the TENDER LOVING CARE aspect in entering the MEDICAL SCHOOL PROGRAM. MUA IS YOUR CHOICE
Please AUA is -------"ALL ABOUT MONEY" PERIOD. And there is underground POLITICS that is too thick that it can not be cut w/a knife.
    All the best,
Prayer about your choice and when you FEEL INSPIRED "GOD FOR IT".

I inquired about SGU as well. 3 years Premed. They may give some undergrad credits if you have them. No loans available. Have to pass an in-house exam which is same difficulty level as MCAT as also pointed out in earlier posts.

I dont have another 3 years to waste...2 Semesters of premed at MUA --> 20 Months Basic Sciences (Thats 28 months) - Less than 3 years and you should be back into US to do your clinicals.
Just the way I thought of it.

Interested in the pre-med at MUA. I am 32 yrs old and not proud of my college gpa (2.2). I have worked in surgery for about 6 months and have been encouraged by the doctors to apply. Can someone tell what the min. gpa would be to have a chance of getting into the pre-med program?

And any advice that one might have!!!1

    thanks

The only way to find out is to apply. It's only going to cost you $50.00.

Ps: Nobody in this world would be able to give a clear cut answer........You just have to go for it and see for yourself.

    Good luck.
