    Pregnancy in residency

    Advertisements

Im not sure of the best forum for this topic but I thought I would try this one. Even though I have a little under 2 yrs until I enter into any residency, I wanted to know how are some women handling pregnancy during residency. I plan to go into FP (hopefully). Any advice? Also would pregnancy hurt my chances of getting a residency if I was pregnant during the interviews?

Programs are not supposed to rank you based on pregnant or not. That is discrimination. I would plan it so you deliver well before residency starts though. For your benefit. You don't want to start behind everyone or miss the first few weeks. Or, wait till you get to residency to get pregnant. FP is usually the best residency for having a baby. Last year we had 5 babies born to residents (3 females, 2 males). Some are not as friendly. Mine even makes sure there is pumping time in their schedules (even at electives).
