Well, there have been a number of posts in the past referencing Katowice. Perhaps a more specific question(s) would get a reply? I can confirm though that there are students in the English program there.

$6000/yr is for the Polish language program. English language recruitment is done through HMI; not sure if you can apply directly. General consensus on this forum is that they're a rather unsavory agent. As best as I can tell, they focus primarily on recruiting North Americans of East Indian extraction by promising to fulfill their parents' dreams of doctor children. I admit that doesn't say much about the program itself though. Hopefully someone from Katowice can jump in.

As for the town, I've passed through many times and spent some time in one of the suburbs. It's a post-industrial town that used to be the center of coal mining and coal-fired heavy industry. It seems to be experiencing a bit of a rebirth thanks to foreign investment in manufacturing, including automotive parts. Apparently, they also have Poland's only UFO landing site.

Are you thinking of transferring to Poland?

I dunno just looking for now. St. Chris has issues with funding the only loan is Terri and that is not too easy to get. I do not know if I will get the money I need to stay in school at this time. So I'm looking into schools who have federal loans as well.

If you're looking at Poland, I suggest putting Jag and Poznan at the top of your list, based on their track records and lack of agents. They're both eligible for Staffords too. I flew Krakow/Katowice to Luton return several times last year for less than 50 quid. Costs are paltry once you get to Poland so if you're keen, you could take a few days break and check these places out first hand without too much hassle. If you have any specific questions about Jag in Krakow, I'd be happy to field 'em.

hey whuds. if you go to EE, some things to be careful with:
    1) AGENTS. stay away from anyone that charges you to get into med school, or that charges you at all above tuition.
    2) just be aware that the 4 year programs and the english programs require special additional approval in CA. if it matters to you, make sure the english program is on the list.
    3) AGENTS. worth mentioning again.
    4) living and studying in EE is not the same as an american school.the exams are different, and even if they claim to teach a usmle based curriculum, they prob dont. they will cover the material, but you will have to do a lot of practice questions on your own. not that they can't teach it well, but it is just a fact that 99.9% of the profs never took the usmle, never took many multiple choice tests, etc..so, they don't really know what the test entails, nor how to teach the material that way. oral exams are different, but good. and, the countries usually take some geting used to. it gets more USA like every day, but still....

i loved my experience in the EE. but, it was tough! so, make sure you go to the schools, check them out, pay close attention to the city and way of life, and once you move, make sure you are super commited. most of us were close to leaving at one point, and to have a personal commitment to stay will get you through the tough times.

hope it all works out at st chris for you. if not, good luck with your search.

Thanx, I'm doing the research for others as well. I still ike St. Chris but I want to be a doctor and if I must go somewhere else where I can get loans then so be it.

I already wrote the School asking for an admission packet. Heck I'm in the UK so I may just hop on a plane and go there myself to see it.
Hey if they don't respond then forget it. They should be able to admit students without agents. If not then I will look elsewhere.
    Cheers.

i would seriously consider SMU, if i were in your shoes. or SABA. i think they have better loans than st chris, and they are both ahead of st chris in terms of licensure. i don't know tuition or loans, but i am under the impression that they are both better.

my personal take is that if you want an american style education, the central europe programs are not the best option. especially if you want a 4 year education.

if you are doing a tour of europe, though, stop by prague. i will buy you a pivo. this town is killer.
