    Starting in Jan. 2004 -QUESTIONS!!!!

    Advertisements

    Hi there.
I am starting basic sciences 1 in january 2004? First off, when is the best time to arrive in NEvis? How many days before classes? What main essentials should I initially bring with me ? Do we require any type of student visa to study in Nevis? When and where should I purchase books?
Any other help would greatly be appreciated.

    Starting in Jan. 2004 -QUESTIONS!!!!

    hello there,

you might want to come a little early just to get settled in at your new dorm. it will give you some time to adjust to the culture change here, assess what you need to do or get, then get it, explore the island a bit, meet some people, and have fun before you crack down. but its not absolutely necessary. you could do it after classes start if you wanted to come as late as possible. but when i was in med one, i felt like there was never enough time.

please see this post for a list of extra items i brought.

if you would like to have your books shipped to the island. purchase them from university books website as soon as possible. they tend to take a long time. or if you want you can purchase them online and bring them with you. some online sites include barnes and noble, amazon, borders, and half.com .

there are certain countries that must have a visa for entry. US and Canadian citizens are not required to have a visa. there should a sheet listing the countries with visa requirements in your admissions packet.

    good luck.

    Starting in Jan. 2004 -QUESTIONS!!!!

We arrived on the Thursday before the school started on Monday which was more than sufficient. I think you can come as late as Sat. (2 days before) still be okay.

Beside a laptop, USB pen (or zip drive), bring a printer (and paper also more expensive here) too if you want to print out lecture notes and don't want to pay U$0.20 a page. Alarm clock (a battery operated one) because mine is a power cord one, I need to keep adjusting the time every 2 days since the power here is like 112v not 110v. Any personal medication for headache, stomach pain, cold, etc. Basically, you can buy almost everything on the island, it is just more expensive. If there are any particular brand of goods that you need to use, then you may want to bring them.

You can buy books from University Books on Line, and have them shipped to here, but expensive. Or search on Amazon or Barnes & Noble, and shipped to your US home, but then you need to carry them with you, but it should be cheaper. Also, check for any good condition used books on internet, that could be a good bargain too. Try to have your book in your first week, so you can start stuying hard, and read ahead if possible.

The school admin. will help you obtain your visa after you arrive. US & Cdn passport can just come to the island without any visa.

Lastly, make sure you email the school your arrival time. When we came, the admin here picked us up and took us back to the dorm. Hopefully, they are still doing that.

    See you in Jan.
