About the apartments also known as potworks. I got a single one and i'm starting in september '05. So its possible to get an apartment but you have to talk to the person in charge of it. If you need his number, PM me and I'll give it to you. They tell you to live at the dorms but you dont have to.

About the single apartment, believe it when you get there. My room mate the first semester there was supposed to have a single apartment also. Unless they have less students than normal coming in, you WILL have a room mate.

Actually, Potworks IS considered a dormitory since they are owned by the same person. Fahima, did u get a Studio or an actual 1bdrm apartment? You have to make sure. The actual apartment has a bigger fridge and actual stove/oven. The studios have a hotplate and a half-size fridge.

I called the housing manager in Nevis and requested a single room in Potworks. I had to pay in advance to secure the room and the guy even told me which room it was - Room 26. However, I'm not sure if it is a studio or one bedroom since he said it has a hot plate, but a full size fridge. Is anyone familiar with room 26 in Potworks? I am starting Sept '05 but I will not be arriving on the island until the saturday before classes begin so I'm hoping I won't be surprised with a roommate - but who knows - I understand I need to expect the unexpected the next few years.

Another question, what is the average rent cost & do you have to pay 1 months rent + security upon arrival b4 you can move in.
Do you have to carry pots & pan, utensils etc.... also, do these apt have microwave & a study desk. I read that the dorms are equipped with a backup generator is that true for some apts? if not.. how do you manage during your daily study time.

When I was there I think it was $1,200 for the semester with a 100 deposit. Due upon arrival. Yes there was a desk and microwave. Pots pans etc are NOT provided, nor is a place to wash said pots and pans. You get to wash them in the shower.

Are you serious???? you have to wash your plates & pots in the shower.... that sucks... where did you live?

Rm 26 is a studio. Some studios do have full size fridge. Studios do not have stove, but they do have kitchen sink, so you don't need to wash your stuff in the shower. Sometimes if it's really full that Rawlin Pastures can't hold all the new students, they will put two students in a room in Potworks. But normally, Potworks dorms are usually used for single occupancy. It's not easy to get the Potworks apt for the first semester, spaces are only available when tenants moved out and they can stay as long as they want, unlike Rawlin Pastures that students have to move out after 1st term. Since you have paid in advance, you may be safe then.
