couple quick items: Shipping- University Books Online ships quickly from US to Nevis (took 3 days) and although not cheap at a fair price and the items arrived undamaged. Also it seems fairly certain that there will be no issues at Nevis Customs if the items are shipped from UBO to the student in care of MUA

Here is the "latest" housing list. I am sure there will be a new one coming out soon for the upcoming semester (Fall 2013), but for those who want to get a head start or get a feel for how much renters are asking around the island to factor into your cost of living, this list will be useful for you. Just a heads up, generally, they want you to stay in the dorms for your first semester, but if you come down with something prearranged and you let the office know, they will accommodate your own arrangements (From my experience you are probably better off that way anyway, you will get more for your money and you don't have to settle for "dorm style" living).

Hello to all, I see this thread seems to be a bit outdated, so lets add some updates for those newbie's. Island life is nothing what you'd expect here, if you've vacationed to the bahamas, mexico, or even some small islands, its unlikely your experience here will be the same. Expect to be ripped off, in every way, whether local's or by the school itself. I say this, because you are a bank to them and thats it. They do not care if your packages arrive at the above mentioned address, as mine did not, which caused me to figure out a way to town, without missing too many classes. So, be ready for complications, hold-ups and lack of communication around the board. I'd also suggest, bring something to protect yourself with (Id advise against a gun), especially girls. There was a girl this semester who was attacked in her home, off of shaw road. It was an attempted murder and the guy was caught, so lets say violence has exscalated a bit since 2009. Also, I would advise all new people, to ask for dorms or houses or whatever to be sure they have multiple locks, fences, security cameras, or guards. I'd say this for your own protection, because as far as this girls situation, no one but two students responded. The school leader I believe showed up, but everything was kept on the hush-hush, some teachers had no clue this situation happened, until weeks later. So, with that, bring small medical supplies, ointments, headache stuff, neosporin, bug spray, etc. The school has no medical supplies for students, there is one AED on campus and its in the library, so hopefully no one goes into cardiac arrest too far away. Be careful of who the school person (charlene) sets you with, she most likely has gotten or gets kick-backs and for the most part can set students up, just like the one i mentioned in not so good locations. Some of the hotels around the island will accept long term leases, of course a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for and sometimes that include security 24/7. Be aware that if you end up in a location and your A/C goes out, don't expect a quick response, some students have gone days before that is fixed. Most places here do not have a washer and dryer, nor A/C in the living room (almost all are located in the bedroom only). Rents i have found to range from 500 us per month, up to around 1500. The higher end usually includeds ulimited A/C use as well as, internet, cable, maid service, etc. I may be leaving some things out, if so reply with questions and I'll do my best to answer.
