Do really well on the next set of MCATs. If you get a 24+ you'll have more than a shot at the big 4 (SGU, AUC, Ross and Saba). I'm not sure what cutoffs for DO schools are however I would still apply to all 4 DO schools before any Caribbean schools. Make sure you review MCAT material!!!

Here's how I'll rank your list:

    1) DO schools
    2) SGU
    3) AUC
    4) Saba
    5) Ross
    6) MUA
    7) AUA
    8) SMU

This list has a few reasons behind the numbering. I don't put AUC and Saba before Ross for multiple reasons, one reason being the high attrition rate at Ross another being that the school is on one hell of a ghetto island. Sure Saba isn't the best of the Islands but I like the admin. much better at Saba vs. Ross. MUA before AUA only because of the clinical rotation issue. If the clinicals weren't backed up for months (even close to a year in some students), I would goto AUA. I put SMU last because of it's Cali disapproval, I have no idea where I'll be living 25 years from now and don't plan on staying on the east coast for the rest of my life.

Some people who have to take loans and self-pay might not agree with this list due to high tuition fees but if tuition isn't an issue for you then this is a good list. PM if you have any questions, I also have an alternate school you should look into.

thank you so much for the info, your the best yea i know what you mean the east cost isnt where i plan to stay forever either its not getting better here anyway. and yea i would apprciate the alternate school info you mentioned i will apply to all the schools that will give me a good education and help me in my journy to becoming a doctor. and yes i am def applying to the DO schools too, it would be ideal to go to school in the states. i am wondering you a current med school or graduate? and went to med school here in the us or carribean?

    p.s. thanks again

I have looked at DO school requirements and they are higher the Caribbean. Trust me. Do schools GPA requirements are for people who like got C's their first semester of college and then pulled all A and a few B's the next 3 years.

To have a shot, you need 3.3-3.6. Mcat has to be 25+. Think about it, DO are the 1st backup for MD applicants with just below the MD cutoff or even ones who are in the range of MD but there just isn't any more space in MD programs.

Hey guys i was hoping you guys could help me out a bit. I am getting ready to take the MCAT at the end of this week and would like to score atleast a 25 if not higher. I took the MCAT a while ago and had a 21 on it. My issue is is that my GPA is quite low (2.75) with a science gpa around 2.8 I would really like to get into a top 4 school but from what i have been reading on the forums my chances seem to be slim. If i do not get into a top 4 my next choice would be to get into MUA. Do you guys think i would have a shot at getting into MUA with my current stats. I keep reading that unless you have a 3.0 gpa the chances of getting in are slim. If i do not get into MUA what would be next option i should take? i do wanna go to a school that has accrediation in most states and definitely wanna go to a school that will provide me with a good education and pass the USMLE. But at the same time, i dont wanna get caught up in the red tape of being a FMG and not be able to get a residency because i didnt go to a good school. With all this in mind you guys think you can help out a bit. I really appreciate it guys. THANKS

    Hi Everyone,

I plan on applying to MUA'S MD program in the beginning of March. Should that give me enough time to take care of all of the paperwork involved/get financial situations in order before september? Has anyone been accepted yet? I am very nervous that I won't be accepted due to my STATS:

    Me:
-24 yo caucasian Male with Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology gpa 2.51 (graduated 2009)
-1 year (2 semesters) worth of research experience with NYS Dept. of Health under the direction of the Director for the Division of Translational Medicine in which we studied the treatment of pancreatic cancer at the transcriptional level
-Strong work history (resume), 3 LOR's (1 from Nurse educator, 1 from cardiac Nurse Practitioner, and 1 from my Operations Manager on the cardiac unit I work on.
-2 years worth of clincial experience working on a fast-paced cardiac unit(current job)
    -MCAT 23P

Do I have a shot??? Thanks everyone for your feedback...this is such a nerve racking experience!

    Steve
