    PreMed Chances for Fall 2010.

    Advertisements

i am truly sorry to repost a question like this again, as i have quite possibly read almost all the questions posted on the 150 or so pages here regarding mua.

mua's website states the specific classes that arent included in the 60 credits needed to apply for their premed session. some courses include gen bio, general chem 1,2. Organic 1,2 etc.

my gpa without those courses is about a 2.8 or so. With the sciences courses its rather low around the 2.3 - 2.2 range.

i do have volunteer experience, as well as some clinical experience working in a hospital and hospital like environment. Im getting hopefully solid letters of recommendation from a MD, as well as my boss at work.

i graduated in high school the top of my class, unfortunately lost interest and perseverance to succeed in college and maintain high grades. i also was working two jobs to help my parents pay tuition. i do believe that with a fresh start at mua i will make a difference.

hopefully i will have everything sent out by next friday. What is my chances.

    thanks for everything guys.

With the low GPA you probably will be placed in pre-med. As far as I know (and this was way back in 2006), you only need the 60 credits (no science) and anyone with a pulse and money was accepted to Pre-med.

    Some advice.

Stop stressing if you want pre-med you will get in. Just work your tail off in pre-med to make it to Med 1. Personally if I were you, I would redo some classes in the US and apply with the improved science GPA. This will save money and having to spend another 8 months down there. It ain't all paradise when you hit the island, trust me. The Caribbean romance wears off pretty quickly.

thanks alot joe soap for the valuable response.

    - i am not too far off from finishing my pre med reqs, i really should finish it off but i feel that im getting older now and being accepted in the premed program is like getting my foot in the door to medical school. unfortunately i cant even get close to an american med school with grades such as mine.

My high school transcript is very very impressive as is my SAT scores; a sign of what i am capable of? also there improvement in my college grades as well over time. im applying now, ill keep everyone posted.

also im not just applying for august, my second and third choices are january, and may of next year so we'll see how that goes.
