Alternatives to Davenport for Master's degree?

    Advertisements

Hi I am wondering why people don't consider other online degree programs besides Davenport to get Stafford loans.

Davenport is considered along the likes of Devry and Walden University in the States, so isn't it better to go with a more reputable school?

For example, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine in Chicago has a fully online nutrition degree. I think a degree from an American medical school would look better to residency directors in the future. And since the course material and amount of Stafford loans are the same, I don't get why people are choosing Davenport. Am i missing something here?

    Masters

Well, it would appear people do these so they can borrow the money,eh? One would wonder if you would benefit more from doing a MBA when you were out of school itself.

the school has a relationship with Davenport and representatives from Daven port vist the school and answer questions. I don't know if the other programs offer the same as Davenport, so I can't really comment on a comparison. I would think if the other programs were realistic options, they would be mentioned more. My understanding is that it is easy to get accepted into Davenport if you are a MUA student.

Brenda, I have a couple questions regarding your comments. first off, I am not taking the Davenport MBA program but I do have friends that are.

Is the Davenport MBA really "useless"? My brother is also studying for his MBA at a well known school and his course requirements are vastly different and more demanding than Davenport. But I thought in the end, a MBA is a MBA, unless you went to an ivy league school

What makes the funding from Davenport "not worth it"?

    thanks

One should calculate the effective interest rate that is incurred by using this route for financing. I suspect you could get better rates from Lenny the LoanShark. But, like Lenny's customers, desperate times sometimes call for desperate measures.

I think Davenport might make sense if you had a semester or two to go and needed funding to finish. In that case, I would accept the funding to complete my MD and forget about the (worthless) MBA. No one should consider this as a source of funding for their medical education. At some point, the cost is just not worth it.
