    Cali Approval

    Advertisements

    Hey guys,
I know MUA is not approved or disapproved by Cali. I know a few other states follow Cali's list. Can someone please tell me what states they are? Also, is MUA in the process of applying for Cali or not yet?

    Thanks,

    Jersey

The states that follow the Cali list are the following from what I last checked:

    1. California
    2. Alaska
    3. Arkansas
    4. Vermont
    5. Kansas
    6. Tennessee
    7. Indiana
    8. Idaho
    9. Nevada
    10. North Dakota
    11. Massachusetts

    Hope that helps! Good luck!

You're combining the states that follow the California disapproved list and unapproved list. MUA falls under the unapproved listing.

The states that follow the CAli listing of unapproved schools are: Alaska, Tennesse, Arkansas, New Mexico (gives you license if you have been licensed in another state for 3 years), North Dakota and of course California.

I believe Indiana follows the disapproved schools by California list. MUA would be on a case by case I think, but it's best to contact the state board and ask.

    Shiz,

Has anyone done any research into what "following CA's list" actually will mean for these States? The best info would come from grads of both 'unapproved' and 'disapproved' schools who sought licensure.

The possible disconnect I am seeing is the difference in policy and the application of policy for the licensure app process.

I haven't done any conclusive research (I doubt anyone has), but I'm basing my resarch on what has been said on the SMU forums and what the state board websites say.

Also there was a student from Nevis who wanted to practice in Arkansas but was denied, I beleive her name is Nevis butterfly and she even tried to fight the Arkansas board and an article was published. I am basing most of my information off that article.

Here's the article: Physician Questions Medical Board's Blacklisting School on Arkansas Medical News Inc.

I remember that article now. She was pretty irate a few months back. If this is a benchmark for how Arkansas treats applicants it would seem to cover both "unapproved" (which MUA-N is) and "disapproved" (which MUA-N is not): meeting the lower of the two standards for limiting licensure.

I wonder how much thought these State licensing boards have actually put into CA's approval process and how it does or does not meet their State's guidelines for licensing physicians.

The states don't give a rats *** about carib students, all they care about is protecting their turf. We are for the most part entering the medical system through a loophole. There are some schools on the CA list which produce domestic doctors and fall far below a good caribbean school in facilities and standards. There are enough non carib FMGs to fill the empty rural spots and as long as that is there they don't care. It's up to the schools to focus on getting the accred, lawsuits and discussions with the boards fall on deaf years and cannot be won.
