    Lessons in Futility...

    Advertisements

Over the past few months I have seen and participated in some very helpfull, useful, and even fun topics here on ValueMD. But more than anything I have experienced Futile topics that never die...

    FYI:
    The definition of Futility:
1 : the quality or state of being futile : uselessness
2 : a useless act or gesture <the futilities of debate for its own sake>

Have you ever argued with a toddler over why they can't do something? They just don't get it, and won't for quite a few years. Or how about trying to tell your pet Monkey not to eat bananas or sling poo. (no I don't have a pet monkey- its just a figure of speech) Once again they just don't get it.

Well, just because we are in medical school doesn't mean that we all have the maturity and thought processing capabilities that would be expected for someone at this level in the game.

So engaging in debate with these particular students is truly a futile argument. You will never get anywhere and it will just drag on forever, because they will never comprehend the full spectrum of the situation.

So unless you really like engaging in futile arguments, I suggest letting some threads just die out on their own, they certainly are not worthy of discussion. I will work on this myself, I know its hard sometimes to let ridiculous statements go untouched, but unless you enjoy then we just have to move on.

One could make the reverse argument and say everything you just said, is what it is like dealing with the MUA administration, or at least that is how I feel when dealing with them.
EGX001, i sense your frustration, and my solution for you is, if you don't like the topic don't participate in it. It is not your job or anyone else's to respond to every thread that comes into play, nor dictate the guides under which a thread should be made. Last time i checked you are not a moderator, so it really is inappropriate if you or any else to dictate any type of rules.
I can make a thread stating "the sky is green" and as long as i don't violate TOS, its all good. Stop trying to regulate people let them complain and vent there frustrations ( ironically as you just did) justified or not, they obviously need too. Besides i would rather it be in cyberspace rather then in the real world, where they can get into real trouble.
I do understand your frustrations, i really do there are many threads on here like the "kyaking, beef, and the best hamburger" thread that wish would just go away. But this is a free forum, just like yourself people have a right to grip!
    good luck with exams

I agree and quite honestly, this forum is becoming more of non-sense rather than factual.

I agree with every word on this post. One thing I don't understand is: If people hate to read threads which they consider negative, what are they doing commenting on every single one that goes up in this forum? Dr. Caribe is wise, follow his advice, stay away from negative posts, comment on beef and pineapples, and stop banging your heads against the wall, I've never been known for being a wise woman but I think that if you continue you might get yourself an epidural hemorrhage.

No No - No frustration. I guess the original poster was right - It would be futile to post anything further.
    Good luck to you lady!!
