    Gym at MUA

    Advertisements

Last semester we had an SGA meeting with the owner Dr. F in attendance. We were hitting him up for where our student activities fee goes, and He told us in person that part of the new building project included about $50,000 US worth of New fitness equipment. I am not for sure if it will be in the new building or if it will be part of the old, but either way it should be nice...

And I don't know about you guys but I don't think we should have to pay an extra fee to use something that should already be included. The $50 activities fee paid by all the students should be more than enough to cover access to our new Fitness Center - no additional fee should be necessary

The only thing that gets me is that I won't be here to enjoy it...

I agree that we shouldn't have to pay to access it but... what about the maintenance, monitoring of the Gym, I imagine the school will not want to let students mess around with all that heavy equipment and not have someone looking out. Maybe a small fee like $15 to $25 per semester could be fair. I would suggest installing cameras so that whoever is monitoring doesn't have to be inside the building at all times, maybe the librarians can keep an eye on the cameras since they are at the desk all day. look at me getting all excited and we don't even know if there's going to be a gym.

I forgot abt the activities fee:P.But if there is aregular cost of having a fitness person,or even a caretaker onsite,i i would definately be willing to pay a little. The current gym is already expensive, esp. considering its quality and its wayyy to small.I know SOO many ppl who want to workout but just cant do it,including myself. This is areally good step.

I'm surprised no one from potworks has said anything about the burden of having a gym right on top of their rooms. the gym opens at 5 am that's gotta be tough. I hope the gym at MUA is installed somewhere on the bottom floor.

I guess some people don't see it as a burden as the walls in the caribbean are cemented and that makes'em sound proof.

Everytime a weight is droped you can definitely hear it all the way down at the first floor. One day Gym lady tried to block the noise of the weights by blasting the radio which made even the locals upset. Taare Buddy, I can't believe you just said that the cement walls are sound proof. lol lol lol.

Let me rephrase it - cement is a better insulator of sound than a typical dry wall used in North American climate..

I really hope this doesn't go any further off topic!

Taare: One of my friends lives in the rooms at potworks with the gym upstairs. In the evening hours it is loud as HELL. People dropping weights etc. Also, he tells me that some people are using the roof as a place to run. The amount of noise that this makes is insane. I've heard it once while over and it sounds like a parade of elephants passing on the roof.

I was simply wondering about dry wall vs. cement where cement would be better but I guess thats not the case. I didn't mean to sound presumptuous earlier but agree rumbling on the roof can definitely be annoying.
