    Pharm Shelf

    Advertisements

Do any Med 5's have advice on how to best prepare for the pharm shelf exam?

The materials I have right now include Pretest, Kaplan, and First Aid.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Know kaplan pharm, and Dr.Ak***'s stuff cold. If you have done well in his tests, pharm shelf will look like a joke....

    Not a joke

The pharm shelf is not a joke no matter which way you look at it. Our class average on the shelf last semester was in the 16th percentile. Not Good. Focus big time on the key drugs from each category. With special attention to ANS, CNS, CardioVascular, and Anti-microbials.

As for what material to use, my only advice would be to get something and stick with it... It is too easy to get overwhelmed with information, so if you are going to do Kaplan then just really focus on Kaplan, If you want to use the Lange or Brenner then pick one and go with it. Personally I found Dr. A's slides had way too much info to really learn anything really well. The shelf really focuses on the key drugs from each category, which the Kaplan, Lange, and Brenner sum up quite well.

    Good Luck.

Any advice for the Pathology shelf ??? besides know everything...

Goljan or Kaplan. Kaplan might not be enough. Goljan should more than enough.

Is that Goljan notes? If so, do you know where I can find a copy?

    Thanks

I recommend using the Goljan book in conjunction with audio. The book is a bit of a tedious read too as it also requires you to conceptualize stuff. Overall it is a good read. Will also help prepare you later on for step1. Hi-yield actually for the steps.
