    T-mobile cell phone service available?

    Advertisements

Does anyone have tmobile cell phone service in the states and brought their cell phone to Nevis? do you have any reception down there?

I dont plan on using my Tmobile phone for the long term, but I thought it would be helpful just for the first few days in Nevis to keep in touch with back home.

I assume it would take a while to get a local cell phone or set up vonage in Nevis so if my Tmobile works it would be handy.. Thanks!

Nope. It doesn't work at all. If you have an AT&T prepaid sim, it should be able to work here, since AT&T roams with Digicel.

    Yes Yes Yes :)

YES...I have Tmobile in the US and I brought it with me, it works perfectly on Nevis and it worked in St Maarten and San Juan on the way to Nevis......

I'm not sure which local cell company provides roaming service to Tmobile but someone does and reception is phenomenal........

That's weird - a year ago, my old T-Mobile cell didn't work. My recommendation, though, is not to use your US cell phone here for too long. Usually look for the C&W and Digicel people in or near the Cafeteria on orientation day. They usually give away phones that day

Are you sure you have TMobile??? My phone doesn't work here, but it does sync to the proper time, so it's my very expensive alarm clock.

i called Tmobile to inquire about this and they told me that it should work there since Tmobile roams with Digicel. So I guess my phone would work as long as it supports the bandwith in Nevis. So Enigma, it could be your phone..perhaps?

The roaming is expensive here. Best to bring down a vonage type of a thing with you or even buy a local sim if you have an "unlocked" phone.

Enigma....my best guess is that your problem has to do with the phone itself, my phone is quad band which makes it compatible with any GSM network worldwide including Digicel and C&W.....remember that most of T-mobile phones are not world phones, you'll have to specify to them what you want.......anyway, as far as T-mobile I'm a 100 percent positive it works, tried it myself a couple of times but in reality you can only use that while traveling but when you're settled on Nevis you're much better off "and cheaper" getting a prepaid local cell phone or a Vonage service to call home...........my $0.02

Oh, you mean your cell phone and not actual T-Mobile service works here, right? My cell phone will work here too as it's quad band like yours, but I can't actually make any calls on my T-Mobile sim. Now that I think of it, I don't think I have international roaming set up on my T-Mobile phone. If I plug in a Digicel/CW sim, the phone work just fine.

In response to the OP, if you're planning to use your T-mobile cell phone down here, make sure it's unlocked if you want to use it with the mobile services down here. Also, make sure that T-mobile has set up international roaming for you. Just call them up and tell them that you'll be out of the country for a while, and that you need this set up.

However, like others have said, don't plan on using T-Mo service here long term b/c it's way too expensive.
