    Spring Semester 2008

    Advertisements

for all future students and past students at the end of the semester i will post how many past the post test and the cumulative shelf exam that the med 5 students take. lets see what kind of improvements have been made. Also just a prediction let me lay it out to you my prediction in advance. My prediction is most people will fail the kaplan post test since it is a brand new exam and there will no copies out there to get ahold of. But since most other caribbean medical schools take the cumulative shelf exam, i guarntee that students with friends from other medical schools, will get ahold of the cumulative shelf exam and pass that. since the students only have to pass one or the other, not both. HOPEFULLY, the administration has wised up and realized that everyone has copies of all old exam and kaplan post tests and the cumulative shelf exam. I trust in the administration that hopefully they have realized this and for the first time it will be an equal playing fields for all students.

    Change

Changing the performance of a medical school in one semester is like turning a battleship in a narrow birth during a hurricane! what will this semesters scores prove? nothing at all.....the scores of the students now in med 1 in 20 months will be the first meaningful test of the new changes we have put in place for what is already a GREAT school. The sad insinuation that cheating is rampant is a commentary I get choked up about because it means the profession I love, that my daddy loved, has become nothing more than a job like any other. Please say it isn't so that bad behavior isn't so rampant that a fair and honestly taken exam is impossible to achieve?

I personally know a lot of Med5 students now who made through the program without dropping a course. I am sure, your class is good and a positive result will come out. Good Luck!

Wait, arent u med 5?Its sad to see ppl think so low of their batch and classmates...

I for one think that school should weed out ppl who arent cut out for Med school earlier rather than later, not trying to be insensitive. It should have a strong support staff but high standards at the same time. Our exams are getting harder, its stresseful but it makes us learn as well. The deans right,it wont happen overnight!!`

    New Exams

New exams are my expectation as well as the expectation of the Asst Dean AND Academic Dean. New EXAM with 3rd order vignette questions by next semester 100% is my goal.

Really appreciated the professionalism of your post whoru2. It was a very constructive post and a model of how to put some negative slant out there but in a very nice way!

FYI the individual you refered to, I never heard mention of his name nor did the Asst Dean (I just called him to make sure) so not sure how you KNOW he was a "perpetrator"

I reviewed my exam with med 5 on a Saturday and had 95% attendance (actually was closer to 99%) and I agree with you it was a great exercise for them and a learning experience for me about some weaknesses in extraction of key information from vignettes which has led directly to the study skills program.

Be Constructive Be competent Be professional ALWAYS!

I'm not quite sure of the purpose of this post. It seems that it would make more sense to rely of the actual evidence from students who complete the post test rather than these predictions.

Also, how are you going to "guarantee" that students with friends from other medical schools will will get ahold of the cumulative shelf exam and pass that??
