    Stop Bashing MUA

    Advertisements

Hi future Doctors. I am a former student of MUA. I am starting my clinicals in May 2008 and I have done well on the Step 1. I think MUA is a great school and teachers are also very good. I dont know whats going on right now but I was sad to hear so much criticism of MUA from current students on this forum. I think you guys need to stop complaining and start studying thats what I did when I was there on the Island. I can assure you guys that MUA does a great job in preparing us for the boards and I am testimony to that. I can help any student who is looking to join MUA or currently any student who needs advice. Just remember guys the end result of whole 1.5 years on the island is to do better on Step 1 and MUA despite some of its flaws is a great place to learn medicine.

calling the school corrupt is libelous.

I agree that sometimes one has to speak his mind. But maybe some of the comments made are a result of frustration and nothing else. The medical school is tough and I have been through it all. MUA actually got strict about Kaplan post test during August 2007. I took the post test like many others and around 7 students from my class failed to make 45% on the exam. They had to retake the test. I look back at it and those same guys have not passed the boards. On the other hand guys who studied for the post test and got 50 or 60% on it are actually in their clinicals right now. It hurts that so many prospective students are getting wrong picture from the current frustrated students. I am not paid to defend MUA on this forum just expressing my opinion that the best way to go is to study hard and stop complaining.......

MUA's real pass rate is like 20%

    Here's how I calculated it....

The current MED5 started out with about 70 students, more or less

    graduating class had about 40

only about 28 then passed the post test

and still the first time pass rate is about 50%(according to the truth telling ex-dean Dr. edited for names.), so which mean about 14

    so 14/70 that's 20%...

Wow man's it's in the double digits..... Yet on the website they somehow were able to come up with 83%.

If I get a 270 I don't need your help finding rotations I'll find my own.

    whoa...

now the above post is wrong on a whole number of ways. first of all, i doubt you will get a 270 with your current math skills and current comprehension levels. the current med5 as you stated didn't even take the post-test yet. so what do you mean 'current med-5'

secondly the pass rate on the website being in the 80's is including 2nd and 3rd tries. so you calculating your number of 20% doesn't include the people who you claim didn't pass the post-test and the others who didn't take the test yet. i don't know if that's bad math or just plain sub-normal intelligence.........

the school is moving in a positive direction, and the current dean is doing all he can to make changes to the school........so mua is definately moving in the right direction.........true the school has/had issues but every school does.......

so anyway, don't hold your breath.......

The word libelous implies, slander, we are talking about irrefutable facts.
Fact: The former CEO informed MUA students that the first time pass rate was not 83% and is significantly lower.
Fact: The dean and the administration have spent the last 3 months punishing those who took the exam honestly not once but twice, and have let all those who cheated on the exam ( a fact they have admitted in writing) go on and take Step without any repercussions.
Fact:The school has lost several clinical rotations sites, in MI and OH among others, if you don't believe me ask Dr. S herself who informed us in an informational meeting.
The FACT of the matter is their is a reason for these negative posts, its not like these are rantings of dienfranchised mad men, MUA has problems! problems that need to be address and quite frankly the current leadership is not providing adequate solutions its that plain and simple but instead chooses to ignore them. So as far as im concerned the so called the "bashing" will continue until more effective change is met at MUA.

    edited for flaming.

and that 270 was meant fro Dr.. Turkewitz only, once I asked him about rotation spots and he said "Son, If you get a 270 on the USMLE I guarantee you rotations"

that 20% is suppose to represent, If you get into to MUA what are the chances that you'll pass the STEP I first time... Now i wonder what the average score is.

    Docotrmua was banned

    Hey guys,
doctormua was banned, because of having multiple accounts, and most of the times he was defending MUA, do you guys think that maybe it was Dean T, who's made so many accounts so help MUA improve its reputation.

Also I have noticed an overwhelming amounts of posts from Dean T, i wonder how much times he spends on valuemd? and how much time he leaved for teaching, Admin duties, students problems and other stuff?

    Did this cross anyone's mind.

I think a question has been raised about the use of a router by multiple people and hence having same ip. That may very well be the reason for the ban although it remains unanswered until a mod clarifies for us. On the other hand, as far as the dean is concerned, he answered my 2 questions over PM saving me time while remaining anonymous. Secondly, you may be missing the point that valuemd is a great "communication tool" - He is using this source (tool) to gather problems from a vast student body and going back to school and making changes. i don't see anything wrong with that @ all. He even posted his phone# here to be contacted 24/7...What more can a student expect?
Good luck with you blocks Bewild!!
