New Dean Tells Students To Transfer

    Advertisements

why would a dean of a medical school tell med5 students who had to retake the post test to transfer b/c i quote "not his problem b/c they were here before him and now the new med 1 students are his problem". That is no way to treat students who have gone through the program and spent 2 years on nevis and worked very hard. No dean should ever discourage students.

yea i heard that also.........its very frustrating to see how he is treating the med 5 students who had to re-take the exam........already the school didnt act accordingly towards the cheating that went on and then he goes to talk down on the people who didnt cheat..........everything is just screwed up!

what I don't get is there are students that haven't pass the exit exam twice and then there are people claiming that everyone cheats.

Are those that didn't pass the exit exam a second time claiming that those who passed cheated and that is why they passed?? If so, those who cheated won't do well on the step 1; don't worry about those students.

I don't think the dean is being harsh to med5 students who did not pass and want special consideration. Seriously, what can he do?? The best thing to go forward is study hard, pass the exit exam and you will be in a better position to do better on the step 1.

everytime the dean has come our class to speak he has been very straight forward and doesn't sugar-coat information. Also, he doesn't dance around questions, which means that people don't always like the answers he gives.

I think he is right person for the position.

He dances and pretty bad! People say that he came to the med 5 class and told them that he had given credit for the 5 bad questions that showed up in the post test but it was all a lie. He gave one credit to one student for unknown reasons but no one else got anything. Plus no consideration was given to the fact that there were power outages that occured during the exam and people lost time because of that. Why does Don1 continuously make assertions to which he/she is naive about.

If we were given 5 questions, I was exactly 1 question away...

I will say there were many new questions which I was happy to see. I wasn't all too happy to see my result, but at least I can give credit to those that passed it, as they earned it. It was a better test (and I feel more difficult) than the one given in December. Does passing the post-test mean these students are ready for Step 1? I wish I could answer that. I always told myself no matter when I passed it, I would need more review. There were some really, really long questions so if you want to prepare for it, start by doing questions that are 6-7 sentences long, each sentence full of information that is relevant to the question.

Good luck to anyone preparing for shelf exams and the post test. You can accomplish nothing by blaming others for your shortcomings, just read all that you can in the next few months and that is as prepared as you can be. This next month is very important for you (haha, and me) so just focus on the material in your courses and read as much kaplan as you can. I can say there were over 100 Path questions on the exam, so if you absolutely need to focus on something, make it Path. There were also a ton of Pharm questions. People say Path, Pharm, and Physio should be your focus, and that is the case at least for this last test. I don't know if it will be the same, but I am sure Path will be the most tested. Please don't take too many tips from me, as I still have to figure the test out for myself.
tonyND, I hope you don't think it was all your fault, imagine how many more questions you would have been able to answer if you had received proper teaching in embryology, histo, physio (not Dr. B), micro/immuno, path I/II. Im not saying that you would have been able to remember everything from med 1 up but for sure you would have been able to refresh your memory faster, leaving you much more time available for the highest yield topics. I saw another post by you and I get the impression you feel that its all you. You have the best attitude I have seen so far, don't let these set backs bring your moral down. If admin was being fair they would have given you credit for those 5 questions and you would have been able to go home and take a review course or what ever you wanted to do without drama here. Best wishes.

Any teacher worth her salt will tell you, that it is never students that fail the teacher it is the teacher that fails the students. It is unfathomable that Dean of Medical school would pro-actively discourage students from pursuing there medical education. That is the sign of a bad teacher, let alone a Dean of Medical school. No doubt Medical school is hard and much of the work you shoulder on your own. But teachers and Deans should be guiding you along that journey offering you every available opportunity to succeed, not condemning you for your failures. It is not you who failed them they failed you by not providing adequate resources or providing a positive environment for you to learn in. I mean did the Dean check on you guys once to see how you were doing when you were studying for the second time? did he provide advice, study tips, or even some encouragement? No he didnt now your being blamed for his in action and failure as an educator. Its a sad sad day for MUA indeed, i almost long for the days of Dean L at least he cared.
