    reappearing in step 1

    Advertisements

    Hi
I just went abroad for a vacation. One of my friends who is done with his MD told me that IMGs from South Asia only have one shot at the step 1 in a 7 yr period. If you fail it,you can write it again right way.But if you do bad, you cannot appear for another 7 yrs.So basically either u do great,or you fail.

I was wondering if there is a similar rule for Caribbean students? If we pass but dont get a good great, can we appear again in a short while or do we wait that long as well?

if you pass thats it. you cant take it again. there is no 7 year rule. you can usually take it three times and if you fail 3 x you typically need permission from your school to take it again. frankly, focus on making it the first time, not how many times you can fail it.

ONE has three tries at passing the USMLE (each step), after which they are required to spend another year in training (school). Suggest you check the USMLE website for up to date information and do not depend on hearsay information.
