I know of people who use it. My housemates and I had Sunrocket, until it went out of business.

Next semester, I plan on using MagicJack (I'm using it in the US right now)...it's like vonage, except that it plugs directly into the USB (and you plug your phone into this USB dongle), and works only when your computer is on. A friend has it on the island, and the call quality is really good, according to what he last told me. It's really cheap too...$40 for the first year, and $20 a year thereafter, with unlimited calls to the US/Canada. (Website: magicJack)

The quality of the vonage phone is pretty much like having a regular phone and one of the best of the internet phones. The smaller companies, I find, tend to turn over quickly (go out of business) and the service is questionable. However, Vonage customer service if you want to cancel your contract is horrible; they will routinely explore every possible option of keeping your vonage phone despite you telling them that you want to cancel. Vonage prices plans and contracts are different in Canada and the United states, with the Canadian service entailing more cost and having a 1 year contact if you keep you phone for over a year. Make sure you read the terms with vonage carefully; I've had the sales person directly avoid answering certain questions about terms and outright lie about other questions (ie. they told me there wasn't a contact when there was).

Lingo can connect to any line, (cell or land line) at same monthly flat rate.
