I am so very much afraid...

Moving anywhere requires an adjustment , but since I'm moving from new york to the caribbean I'm terrified. Are new students generally more excited than nervous or are new students to nevis just as uneasy?

I can't speak for everyone else, but a lot of students I spoke with (including myself) were sharing the same feelings like you about coming here and having to adjust to a new environment. Actually, when I first got here I was in shock and was thinking that I made a big mistake being here. As you meet people and school starts those feelings quickly go away and you focus on learning the materal; time goes by fast.

No matter where you go to medical school you will be spending most of your time studying, which feels the same where ever you are.

It will work out and being terrified is normal.

Life is about changes and adjustments and the trials we go through better ourselves. It can be overwhelming, calm yourself in knowing you are not alone and if you have any problems teachers and fellow students are willing to listen and help. Everyone believes their own burdens are the heaviest, but we all have our load and we can help each other in balancing. You are going to be a foreigner, you are going to be ripped off by every local even ones dealing with students on a constant basis. Stay cool and focus trust me I have been through hell and back on this island I still stuck it out. Trust me school will be so overwhelming (this is a good thing) that all you care about is what happens and how much knowledge you can get in 3 weeks. you will soon figure this out. You have only two choices fear of the world or faith in yourself. Its your choice. If you need someone to talk to who has been on the island please hit me up on a PM. I might not respond this week or next but over break I will. Good luck and CONGRATS on taking the first step on a wonderful adventure.

As we pursue our aspiration in this great noble profession or any other field, we should also learn to demonstrate good behaviors through our actions and communication.
It is highly inappropriate for you to refer every local with such an overstatement. Some students may have encountered ups and downs in one way or the other with the locals, however you may also have similar experience in different forms which ever school you attend either in the States, Canada or even worse in your native country.
It's good to give back to the community that shaped part of your life.

Then why bust my balls over a matter you know is true? putting your two cents in? We all know that we get ripped off, there is nothing wrong with being friendly with guards, homes (hence the friendship) and dude why not let new students get a heads up? This makes no sense.....Why let them walk into a trap and then let them think bad about it some students have bought cars that the supposed owners never owned stuff like this needs to be out there so....... why not JUST TELL THEM AND PREPARE THEM, thus when your guard is up you are less likely to keep getting ripped off....and LOL yes sadly I DO know more locals then say 98% of our school population my skin tone is favored by them lets face it and I have been here over a few semesters.

Its impossible to sell a car by a person who is not the owner since both parties go to the police station and transfer the name which is in their records...This procedure can be done any police station but one has to go to town eventually to update records which YES are on a computer...So one's gotta be dumb to buy a car and not transfer it in their own name by the registered owner who signs a document.
#2 - Every place has its economy...Yes this place is a tourist place and things are expensive...What do you mean by rip off??? I bet if i was a local and house around school i would probably charge a competitive rent myself....Its natural!!! Deal with it!!
I have dealt with locals myself in terms of renting cars/houses and buying a car and have had no problems....Changed rental car twice until bought one and changed house once and got my deposit [email protected] all times...
Its been over a year here since i did premed and havent had any major problems in terms of settling...it just depends on your attitude....Be nice to a person, i am sure they will be nice back to you...You are under no obligation to engage in any business with any one you don't want to...PERIOD!!!
PS - I am just giving my side of the story and not countering anyone's experiences.
    Thanks and PEACE!!!!
