    Student loans for you!!!

    Greetings!

I hope this is good info for you...here goes!

Got accepted for the Sept 07 but deferred for acceptance for another time.

Well, when I did get accepted...I was getting my loans ready. I'm from Alberta, so I applied and I recieved a total of $31,000 for my first year (which is both Federal & Provinical combined). So, I wouldn't sweat it about not getting any funding at all. But that is Alberta though, I do know that there are several other provinces that don't accept MUA under their regulations pertaining to a medical school for them, therefore, watch out for that...find that out first! Oh, and do coming from Alberta, the total loan debt is $95,000 for going to Med school. But, if you do already did take out student loans for your undergraduate or masters before med school, then you've got to minus the costs that the government gave you for student loans, so it might not leave you with much.

As for me, I deferred for financial reasons. I realized that if I did go to MUA, I would be of maxed out my Student loans available after my 2nd year. Therefore, I've decided to work for 1 year or so and invest in a collateral that will enable for me to get both bank or private loans (CANHELP).

If you have any questions, let me know!

Thank You Nemo for your post! I live in Montreal, and Quebec does not give a dime to anyone leaving the province for medicine ..(yes you read it correctly!) .. I'm so pissed at this government when I see all other ones finance their citizens!

    Yeah, thats pretty troublesome news!

    Hey Senz Asian,

Yeah, that totally bites the dust; for the province of Quebec for their student loans. Well, as for yourself...did you get into MUA or planning on applying to the school?

What options are you looking for your coming up with the proper finances?

Well, like we all are here for on ValueMD. We all want to become doctors and if your passion is in your heart to get there...YOU WILL GET THERE. No matter if you have financial issues or grades or which ever.

    Something to think about,

I had a professor that back in the 60's had the passion to go out there and become a doctor, but the only flaw to that matter was getting his finances in order, have the right amount of money to pay for Medical school. Well, that was the 60's and they didn't have Student loans back then. Therefore, it was mostly opposed to people to become doctors who had the money. So, he dropped the idea of becoming a doctor and he later became a Physical Therapist. The best advice he told me, which I'm telling everyone here is that...NEVER, EVER...look down at your passion where your heart is and fall short because of money. He said that if he could do it again...He would work, no matter how long...but, get the money to pay for Medical School.

So, keep fighting the fight and save your money...Whatever it takes to get to where you want to be!
