    A few questions

    Advertisements

Hey everyone this is my first post obviously nd i have a few questions. I checked the FAQ's and bowsed the forums and found some answers but not all. My first question is simply if I attend MUA Nevis am I able to get a job as a doctor in the United States (Pennsylvania). I am really confused on how to go about this. My next question is what is life like there I have found threads about this but it seems to me that everyone attending is older and if I attend the school I will only be around 20, maybe 21. Are there younger kids on the island and will I have trouble meeting people? I am outgoing but not really at first around people I don't know. Please spare me if you are going to answer this thread with a sarcastic post telling me to look, or search

Yes, you can work in Pennsylvania as an MUA graduate. Please see Medical University Of The Americas - www.mua.edu and search (Ctrl+F) for Pennsylvania, or anywhere else you'd like to check. There are plenty of younger students there. People just don't usually post their ages on ValueMD. Most people are there one or two years after finishing their bachelor's degree, while there are some other students who are non-traditional or are in the midst of a career change. From what I've experienced, it isn't too hard to meet people, and people of all ages become friends. (I have friends ranging from being 20 all the way up to someone older than my mom)

Good answer. The majority of students at Mua are straight out of college. Usually, it is quite common that you would become friends with a few of your classmates as you are all getting adjusted to a new environment. There is a congenial and friendly environment overall. The first semester is typically the hardest in terms of adjustment to the island and the school schedule. Beyond that you become more concerned with your course work than anything else. Go for it, but be ready to be flexible. Island living is a whole new lifestyle.

    Pennsylvania

Just keep in mind that Pennsylvania is one of those picky states when it comes to licensing requirements. You will need to make sure that you do all of your third year rotations (if not ALL rotations) at "greenbook" sites. Also, Pennsylvania does not allow any foreign medical students to do clinical roations at Pennsylvania hospitals although you can do a residency there.

Thank you. That's a great clarification!! I personally want to do my residency in Pennsylvania so I can sponge off mommie and daddie a few more years after med school
