Anyone get a license in North Dakota??

    Advertisements

anyone hear of anyone getting a license in North Dakota?? sounds like an odd question right? Who would wanna go there.

well apparently, North Dakota is one of several states that just officially announced they are using the Cali List. So if your medical school is not on the approved california list, you wont get to get a medical license in that state.

actually, from what i gathered from the ND med board website, the schools "specifically" disapproved by cali are the ones out of luck. mua nevis appears like they would not run into the same roadblock that smu just ran into.

north dakota even lists the disapproved schools...... which mua nevis doesnt show up on.... so it appears they are safe for now in north dakota.

i hope they wait as long as it takes for them to be absolute certain that they will be granted approval when they apply. we all know the continual repercusions that smu is experiencing from their formal disapproval.

It definitely won't be until the new building is completed, that's for sure.

I read the SMU report from the CA team. They had a LOT of positive things to say about SMU and a few bad ones. The bad things were not horrible, but they needed some spiffying up. I think SMU is literally quite close to CA approval and should work on the areas they need to improve on and apply again. Even the CA folks said they were impressed with SMU.

    Report is here: http://www.medbd.ca.gov/Matthews_Report.pdf

i read it. the problem is, this is was performed before california went to having much stricter standards in getting approved - basically they took the LCME standards and said here meet these. far more to do, far more strict. i would imagine smu may very well have been able to pass the previous standards but the new is going to be very difficult.

i honestly do not think there will be any more "off shore" schools getting on the approved cali list because of this.

If the school gets approval, then the students are probably going to pay more money.

The new dean spoke to the Med 1's a couple of weeks back. Someone asked him when MUA would be applying for California approval, and he implied it would be a few years. The bottom floor of the new building will be ready for classroom use (and by classroom use, only one class will be in the new building, either the incoming med 1's or the current med 1 class). The whole building should be ready by 2009 from what I can tell. Also, we need a certain number of practicing graduates, so all in all, I think MUA will apply for CA approval in another 3-4 years. Also, keep in mind, the owner of the school went through the CA approval process for SABA, so he knows what needs to be done. I think it's a good idea to take it slow because we all see what's happening to the school's on CA's disapproved list.
