    Bad news...help!

    Advertisements

    Hey guys,

1st of i have applied for SABA and MUA.
I got a letter dated July 31, 07 saying that i have not been accepted. The letter mainly talks about how there is not much space, that is 53 students for basic science and 30 for premed.
I am really really upset at this point as MUA was my hope and i was very sure i would get in.
my 1st choice was for Sept 07, 2nd was Jan 08 and 3rd was May 08.
I was wondering that maybe the reason they didnt accept me is because i chose Sept 07? i am actually more interested in starting in Jan 08 since i have alot to do before i can leave like getting loans and all that paper work.
any advice would be great and i am going to call the person who wrote me the letter.

That is the same letter they wrote to me too., saying only limited seats.. The semester I applied to is Jan 08 for MUA as Med 1.

Good luck on calling the people, because to them, 'NO means NO" which happened to me...

The thing they want from me is to take MCAT and to reapply for May 08 and I say "get lost"

If you want, apply to AUA Jan 08... which is equally to MUA-N. Both have NY approval.

Good luck on calling the people, because they will most likely still reject... which happened to me...

did they give a reason as to why they didnt accept you? was it the GPA or just space? this is really really dissapointing because a friend of mine that applied back in May/April for Sept 07 got the interview and all and we have fairly similar marks. i should have applied a long time ago!

Doon't think thatz the reason because they won't even offer me May 08 Med 1 or any premed to any semesters

The letter they sent to you is the same letter they sent to me a month ago saying limited seat and didn't mention about any GPA or MCAT in the letter. However, when I called, the secretary pulled up my file [preventing me from talking to the admission... arrogant jer ks] and said becuase I didn't take the MCAT.

Here is the funny thing too. I retook general chemsitry from D to an A and she said that they do not like the fact that I had to retake general chemsitry at such a compettive university [Rutgesr U.] But I told her what she said doesn't make sense. If I apply w/o retake with a D, I will def. not be accepted. Then she talks about my MCAT saying I need to take MCAT. I asked to be offered for premed at any semseter even if its August 08 and she said no, I must take the MCAT and she trys to end the conversation by saying "We have adviced students to apply early [1 year early] because our school is really competitive now. I even tried by saying I improved a lot during my last two years and took many upper level coruses [you name it, I took it... histology, pathophysiology, etc etc and did excellent in them] and the final answer is "NO"

Here is the thing, I had a friend applied to MUA-N and got in with GPA lower than mine, no MCAT, took less upper level courses and it was before Saba had CA approval. Once Saba had CA approval, Saba and MUA-N started being like this... you know what I mean...

I absolutely did not like the process of applying to MUA and the whole process.. the staff were quit rude the whole time and anytime when I called to ask qusetions... I can always sense the arrogant and lack of concern in their tone

You can give me an infraction if you like... but I will always speak the truth.

Thanks for being brutally honest bro. I wish i read your post before sending that application. As i check my posts, you had replied to me saying dont waste your money to send anything there.
I will still try to get transferred to admissions and see what they tell me. I hope if not MUA then i have hops for SABA and infact SABA is my 1st choice of all of them.
I just sent my online application to All Saints as some of my friends are going in Sept 07 so maybe worst comes to worse i can go there.
I really pray to get into SABA. My other friends applied and got rejected and he called and talked to them and they told him ok we will give you an interview. So his inteview was booked when he called them. So i hope in case same letter comes to me from SABA i really hope i can change their decision.
I was looking into All Saints and my mood is just off as far as going to that school. I dont know how i can live in Dominica!

It would be really nice if you get into SABA... hahaah.. in fact it would be very werid since they are sister school and SABA is harder to get into than MUA-N. In fact, if applicants applyign to SABA gets rejected, their application is forwarded to MUA-N. I believe their office are both in Gradner, MA.

Say if you do get into SABA., I am sure its probably because Saba and MUA-N admission didn't communicate to each other. Just remeber, never ask why you didn't get into MUA-N. Hahaha.. maybe you will get into SABA... never know.

well still waiting for response from SABA so it kind of shows that they are looking at it and i should get the letter this week. i will follow up on that real quick.
my friend that did apply to SABA and got the rejection letter told me that his letter said to apply to MUA, so yes they dont communicate on every applicant. i just hope SABA get's me in as thats the only place i really really want to go.

imraan, i think you should reapply for Jan/May08 if Saba does not work out.
realistically speaking, it's less than a month to sept, the most competitive semester. i would imagine spots for sept have been filled for quite some time...maaaybe with a few seats left open for candidates with high gpa/mcats (and even those must be filled by now).

    good luck with saba!

    Dr. Imraan-

I hope all is well with you. I was a little disappointed knowing that MUA didn't accept you even though you sound like a great candidate for the school. I have to admit though, MUA is an excellent school... I started my first semester as Med1 and now going onto Med2 next semester and I love every second I spent here on the island. We have a new building opening up and hopefully after it's done (Jan08) we should have more space. Honestly speaking, the school is getting much more competitive because it's on the rise and bound to be one of the top in the caribbean. Also both SABA and MUA are gearing towards the MCAT very soon. If you want to apply to SABA I know for a fact that they'll ask you to take the MCAT. It's almost a standard now. I would suggest waiting and reapplying for May08 when the building opens up in January. At this point the school is slammed. I heard there's a huge class coming in September and it was filled since the beginning of the semester. Don't loose hope coz you'll make it man, just believe in yourself. MUA is still a possibility, just call in a couple of months and tell them that you're interested in pre-med or Med1 for May08. Definitely try AUA and SMU too. They are both good schools as well. Good luck with everything and I'm sure you'll be fine.

    All the best,
    gG
