    Campus Internet Free? - Vonage

    Advertisements

    is there free wireless internet on campus?

    I am considering getting a vonage phone and they have wifi phone available that seems great (in concept) but it requires free wifi service to connect; I'm sure it will work at home with a wireless router and a decent connection; connecting on campus would be a bonus.

    There is wifi in the library right now, and the school plans on expanding wifi to the histolab and 24hr study rooms for next semester. I have vonage and it's a pain at the dorms because the connection is horrible with everyone on the internet. But I usually call after 11pm or before 7am. And when you get home at 3:30 it works fine as well. However, lately it's been pretty good since a lot of people head off to the library to study. Do bring a wireless router for your dorm room, I have one and it makes life really easy, your not tripping over wires and constricted to a 3' radius. Just make sure you secure it so people don't bum off your connection and slow it down.

    thanks;

    what type of vonage hardware do you have? The wifi phone looks great and seems ideal but I wonder about the quality of calls.

    Not sure, it's just a small adapter I hookup my phone to. It cost me about $75. I'm on the $20 monthly plan which gives you 500 local minutes and unlimited incoming.
