Does the school encourage finding our own clinicals?

In other forums I've read that some schools encourage students to find their own rotations. Sounds like a pretty good idea, since it helps the school establish new contacts. Does MUA/B encourage this? Who would be the appropriate person in a hospital to approach?

Yeah we have been encouraged to set up our own rotations if we wanted. We've been told to contact the hospitals administrator and get all of their contact information as well as contract information and let Dr. Serslands know and the rest will be set up through the school administration. I'm not a 100% sure if this the most effective method but i do know that a few students have set up their own rotations and have been satisified.

Thanks, KS. I'll be in Florida for a month before leaving for school. There's a particular hospital complex I'd be thrilled to work in, as they really seem to have their act together. Plus I hate the cold; if I never saw another snowflake, it wouldn't be too soon for me. If I could open the door for other MUA students as well, that would be great. I'll put in a personal appearance and overwhelm them with my charm and good looks.

KS_16, now how many students from the school have set up their own rotations? What states are they doing their rotations?

    Well Newone,

The states that students from MUA-Belize have done clinical rotations in are MN, MI, MD, VA, NC (United states) and Nova scotia & Ontario (Canada).

I'm unsure of how many students in total but these are the states and provinces that I was informed about. But please remember these rotations that were set up are electives and not their core rotations. The only two states that we do our core rotations in, are Atlanta and Chicago.

Have you spoken to the students that did their rotations/electives in these locations? How did they say they liked it? Do you know what hospitals they rotated at?

    Hey Newone,

I haven't spoken to all the students that have set up their own rotations but to the few i have spoken to, seem to like it.

I don't know the names of the hospitals they have rotated in but if you give me sometime i can find out for you. I can't guarantee that I'll find out every single hospital's name but I will do my best!

    Hope this helps.

I have spoken to students who are currently doing their rotations in GA and IL and they appear to be having fun. I cant wait to start mine but I am not sure where to go. If Fossildoc can open connections for MUA-Belize students, that would be awsome too.
