    Airport?

What is the name of the airport that flies in closest to the medical school? Is it located on the mainland or on Amb. Caye?

    Thanks

Once you fly into Belize City (one hour from Houston, 1.5-2hours from Miami, and am not sure from where Delta flys in from probably Atlanta then there is also USAir), you can go either one of two local airlines (Maya Air or Tropic Air). There's only one airfield on Ambergris Caye, and both airlines share it. Both airlines should also give student discount to you if you show the admissions letter (afterwards it will be your student ID). But once they start get to know you as a student.. automatically give you the discount if you fly enough.... check out the pictures in the album re: the two airlines.

Honestly, I don't know.. there is only one on the island; And for the mainland, there's the local airport and the international airport... and you don't have switch to the local airport to go to the island.. you can book the flight to the island after going through immigration and customs; Or you can take the taxi to the water taxi.. which is 45" to one hour ride to the island whereas a 20 minute ride by air..

Note the water taxi can be a rough 1 hour ride. Especially if they dont give you a boat with a roof. I took my son and wife on this ride and it was very unpleasant cause it was an open boat.

    name of airport on island

When you get to Belize City to the Phillp Goldson International Airport, you can get a direct flight to the island - San Pedro, Ambergris Caye - with either Maya Island Air or Tropic Air. Both give discounts to medical students. I always took Maya but a lot of students used Tropic. It's easier to go directly from the international airport to the island than to take a taxi to the Municipal airport and then fly to the island. The water taxi is too long and you have to take a taxi to the city - much more hassle. Take Maya directly to the island.
