The Texas board has changed their policy on accepting other ambulatory clerkships in place of Family Medicine. If you plan to come to Texas you need to have a FM rotation, you will not be able to use an IM umbrella situation or you need to wait for licensure once you are board certified. The Licensure Committee directed board staff in Nov to contact the Texas Higher Education Coordinating board about the FM requirement for Texas medical schools, but odds are that the THECB will not change the requirement for Texas medical schools since the LCME standards state that FM should be part of the standard clinical education. So, just an fyi.
