states that follow CA list - updated 2008

so the CA list grows, like an ugly monster. but for any newcomers to the forum, here are the states if you would like to know who follow the CA list.

    CA, because it's their list
    VT
AK (that's alaska btw, added last year)
    AR (newly added)
    ND (added last year)
    TN
NV (they might follow the list more as a guideline)
NM (they allow reciprocity after being licensed, with a clean record, for 3 years in another state).

i went to a CA unapproved school, and the list was about 4 states long when i started med school back in 2004. it's now 2008, with around 8 states that follow the list.

there are other states that do not use the CA list, who are still IMG unfriendly typically, i.e.,

    TX
    CO
    ID
    OR
    others

some states have their own lists, like OR and MI have lists of unapproved schools.

some states will nail you if your rotations weren't all green book, or at least your core rotations weren't all greenbook (OR, OK, TX, PA, others).

one reason i keep up with this forum is to stay informed about state licensure issues. it's important to know where you can/cannot practice one day.

Let me clarify my question, I'm sorry I was very vague:
I saw that it said a medical school has to be in existence for 15 years before licensure is granted--I am assuming that means permanent.
I believe that this rule does not apply to residency applicants, ie that you can get a restricted license for residency. I'm an AUA alumni that wants to apply to Kansas for a restricted license for residency. I don't want to throw my money away on a Kansas app. Can anyone confirm it is just for permanent and not restricted residency?

    Hi Tipton,
I have the Kansas topic in the aua clinical board.
It may help out a lot of students if you find an answer from Mr. S if you're able to put it there for the benefit of all aua participating in the match. I'm basing my assumption based on something Sree said, and so far I don't see anything prohibiting residency licensure. I asked Dr. B if there were any states to watch out for besides Cali and he said aua would support all students outside the state of cali, but I'm unsure if he was aware of this 15 yr rule--I can't find anything that states that it prohibits residency, it seems like it is implying when you apply for permanent licensure.

You might contact AUA's attorney, Mr. ********, to see if he can help.

    Hi Tipton,

Please keep me posted as Sep 1st is coming very soon. I got a bit confused bc one of Sree's old posts on requirements said it was permanent but not residency, but I definitely don't want to throw money away on Kansas applications if they have the 15 yr rule for residency as well.

I've been trying...leaving messages, getting transferred around, I wouldn't have taken your time if I didn't try that avenue first. Thanks for your help.

I'll PM you if I find a response, I figured Mr. S may have some insight since he's been very helpful in helping out aua alumni in terms of residency placement. So far I've just left messages and haven't been able to get a black/white concrete answer. I'd just like to know prior to Sep 1st when apps go out.
