    Transfering to a U.S. school.

Is this actually possible. I know what the odds are but have there been people who have actually done this before. I have real good legacy at a couple of schools and if I got straight A's and blew away step 1 do you think it would be possible?

    Transfer

I can say that in my class when we were in 5th semester 4 students transfer to US schools and one of my friends had a 221 on step 1. The others I have no idea how they did in their step 1. It is very hard but not impossible.

    It is not usual

however. Certain schools like the University of Miami are implementing a NO TRANSFER rule. Mainly to discourage those people from going to the islands and then thinking they can skirt and get in the back door. ITs a valid thought mind you, but they are tired of being known as a transfer stop for people who couldn't get in the first time.

Few schools that I know of accept transfers, but I know a few do...ONLY if they have others tudents flunk out or not pass the USMLE the first time. Chances are, teh school you initially enroll in, is the one you'll graduate from. Its not a bad thing. You just have on hoop extra to jump thru.

When do US med schools usually accept transfer applications?? And when is the best time of the year to get done with step 1 in order to be ready to apply?

    Thanks

    Transfer to a US school

US med schools usually accept transfer applications after the second year because of the openings from students that failed step 1. The best time, if there is such as thing, is after you passed and mastered step 1. It is very hard to transfer. I would not advise anyone to attend a foreign med school with the sole intention of transfering to a US med school. Most students don't achieve this dream.
